What makes the Alfa Romeo Stelvio special
Alfa Romeo Stelvio remap: the 2.0 Turbo petrol and the 2.2 Turbo Diesel
Orders for the Stelvio opened in Germany on 18 January 2017, and the first car was the First Edition with the 280 hp 2.0 Turbo. In Britain it has been sold since 2017 simply as the Stelvio, in Super, Sprint, Lusso Ti, Veloce and Quadrifoglio trims. There has been a single generation since then, Alfa's Type 949, built on the Giorgio platform it shares with the Giulia. The facelifts arrived with the 2020 and 2023 model years: first a new interior and driver assistance systems, then matrix LED headlights. The engines split into two groups, and both are turbocharged: the 2.0 Turbo petrol and the 2.2 Turbo Diesel.
A plug-in box for this Stelvio therefore always means the GAN GT, which covers all six engines in the catalogue. About two thirds of German registrations are petrol and one third diesel, and almost all of them have all-wheel drive. The main versions are the 280 hp 2.0 Turbo with Q4 all-wheel drive and the diesel with 190 or 209 hp. The 280 hp 2.0 Turbo makes 400 Nm, while the 209 hp diesel dates from February 2017. The 280 hp petrol pairs 400 Nm with Q4 and an eight-speed automatic, so a remap or tuning box is mostly about sharper response.
The Stelvio diesel: one engine, five outputs
The catalogue treats the 2.2 as a single Family B diesel in five outputs: 150, 160, 180, 190 and 209 hp. It is a common-rail diesel, and like the petrol it comes with an eight-speed automatic. On the UK used market the 2.2 diesel is the engine most Stelvios carry.
On the Q4 diesel, added torque runs through the automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive, so look at torque as well as power when you compare figures. Check the year and the output of your car together before you read off the figures. The 200 hp 2.0 Turbo has no separate row in the Stelvio catalogue; look for it under the Alfa Romeo Giulia as the 2.0T 200 hp.

Which Stelvio 2.2 diesel is it: 150, 160, 180, 190 or 209 hp?
Use output and date together: the 150 and 180 hp versions ended in August 2018, the 160 hp ran until March 2020 and the 190 hp arrived in September 2018. The 209 hp version dates from February 2017.
Alfa Romeo Stelvio remap: what does the 2.0 Turbo 280 hp gain with a GAN box?
With the GAN GT the 280 hp, 400 Nm petrol reaches 328 hp and 468 Nm. The petrol and the diesels all take the GAN GT, which is rated at up to 30% more power. Treat these as stated gains for the engine type, not a dyno reading of your own car.
Is the Stelvio Quadrifoglio covered by the GAN catalogue?
The Quadrifoglio's 2.9 V6, with 510 hp and 520 hp from 2023, has no row in the catalogue.

Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
