Fiat plug-in remap: no changes to the ECU software

The tuning box sits between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals – unlike a flash remap, which rewrites the ECU. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

FAQs

Fiat remapping: questions

What does the GAN GT add to a Fiat 1.3 Multijet?

In the catalogue, the Fiat 500 with the 1.3 Multijet of 95 hp goes to 124 hp and 260 Nm with the GAN GT, from 95 hp and 200 Nm. British listings give the 500 1.3 MultiJet II as 95 hp and 200 Nm, so check your own figure against the table. For the 1.6 and 2.0 Multijet the figures are different, so go by your own car's stock output. Read them as the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your own car.

Is there a GAN box for the 0.9 TwinAir Turbo?

Sold in the 500 with 85 and 105 hp and in the Panda with 85 hp, the TwinAir is a two-cylinder 0.9-litre turbo. British listings show the 500 0.9 TwinAir Turbo at 85 hp. In the catalogue, the GAN GT is the box for the 500 with the 105 hp TwinAir Turbo.

Is there a GAN box for the 1.2 and 1.4 FIRE engines, as on a Fiat Panda?

The Panda III had the 1.2 8V FIRE with 69 hp; the 500 has that 1.2 at 69 hp too, plus the 1.4 16V at 101 hp. The GAN GA+, rated at up to 12% more power, is the catalogue's box for these petrols.

Tuning box or ECU remap for a Fiat Multijet diesel?

A remap rewrites the factory software; the box sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals. The factory software, checksums and flash counter stay exactly as they were, and the engine's own protections stay active. Take the box off and no traces remain, since nothing is ever written to the ECU. Because the ECU software is never changed and the box can be removed at any time, your manufacturer's warranty is preserved.

Does a GAN tuning box affect my car insurance?

Yes. In the UK a power increase counts as a modification, and insurers expect to be told about it before you drive with the box fitted. Each insurer handles it differently, so check with yours first and quote the before-and-after output from your engine's page.

Will a tuning box affect my Fiat warranty?

No. The box does not change the ECU software and can be removed at any time, so your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved. On top of that, we give an engine warranty: 2 years with the GAN GT, 1 year with the GAN GTL.

Tuning box or remap: which should I choose?

A flash remap permanently rewrites the maps in the ECU and leaves a trace in the flash counter. The GAN tuning box adjusts the sensor signals instead: the ECU stays in factory condition, and you can return the car to stock in about a minute. A flash remap can be the better choice if the engine has upgraded hardware, or if the car is out of warranty and you accept the risks.

About Fiat engines

Fiat chip tuning: what to know about the engines

Fiat remap or tuning box? The engine family decides the box

Whether you want a Fiat 500 remap or a tuning box, the engine family matters more than the model: the 500 came with a 1.2 of 69 hp and with a 0.9 TwinAir Turbo of 85 or 105 hp, and each needs a different box. The 1.2 takes the GAN GA+ and the two-cylinder TwinAir Turbo the GAN GT, so one body can need two different boxes. Fiat has been sold through the UK dealer network for decades, although the current range is smaller than it was. JTD was Fiat's name for its first common-rail diesels; the next generation became Multijet, then Multijet II, 3 and 4.

On the petrol side the families are FIRE (1.2 and 1.4), the turbo T-Jet 1.4, MultiAir 1.4, TwinAir 0.9 and, from 2018, FireFly and GSE in 1.0, 1.3 and 1.5. The Panda III shows the spread: a 1.2 8V FIRE with 69 hp, a 0.9 TwinAir Turbo with 85 hp (2011 to 2020) and, until 2015, a 1.3 Multijet with 75 hp. Tuning a Multijet, T-Jet or TwinAir Turbo means the GAN GT, rated at up to 30% more power.

Why Ducato badge numbers are rounded

The Ducato is the main motorhome base in Europe, and a twin of the Peugeot Boxer and Citroën Jumper. The Multijet 2.0, 2.3 and 3.0 diesels ran from 2006 to 2021, and since 2021 there have been the 2.2 Multijet3 and 4. Names round the output: the 150 Multijet really makes 148 hp, the 160 Multijet 157 to 159 hp and the 180 Multijet 177 hp.

The engines come from several makers. PSA built the 2.0 JTD with 84 hp and the 2.2 100 Multijet, Iveco and FPT supplied the 2.3, 2.8 and 3.0, and Fiat made the 2.0 115 Multijet. A Fiat Ducato remap or tuning box starts from your van's real output, because the catalogue lists 148 hp and 150 hp as separate versions.

Fiat models and the engine families behind them

The Punto (Typ 199) was built from 2005 to 2018 as the Grande Punto, the Punto Evo and the Punto. Petrols ranged from the 1.2 8V to the 1.4 MultiAir Turbo, diesels from the 1.3 Multijet to the 1.9 JTD. UK road tests describe the later Punto as left with mainly 1.2 and 1.4 petrol engines, so check which engine yours has. Arriving in 2015, the Tipo (Typ 356) had the 1.4 T-Jet and the 1.6 E-torQ; the 1.0 FireFly Turbo followed with the 2020 and 2021 facelift. On the UK Tipo launched in 2016, Fiat listed the 1.3 MultiJet II at 95 hp and the 1.6 MultiJet II at 120 hp.

Multijet diesels feature in both Doblò generations, topped by the 2.0 Multijet with 135 hp in the second. The 500X ran from 2014 to 2024. Up to August 2018 it offered a 1.4 MultiAir with 140 hp and a 2.0 Multijet with 140 hp. Among the petrols of the 500L, a compact MPV built from 2012 to 2022, was the 0.9 TwinAir Turbo with 105 hp. Two models were rebadged: the Fullback is a pickup built on the Mitsubishi L200, and the Freemont is the Dodge Journey.

Which Fiat models are in the catalog

The catalog covers 32 models from Fiat. The most engines are listed for the Punto (25), Ducato (22) and Doblo (18). The biggest gain among the models is on the Croma: up to +56 hp.

Naturally aspirated Fiat engines

For 42 naturally aspirated engines from Fiat, there is the GAN GA+: up to 12% more power and up to 15% lower fuel consumption in ECO mode, which means better MPG. You can fit it yourself, in most cases in under 15 minutes.
