GAN tuning box for Seat

Seat plug-in remap: no changes to the ECU software

The tuning box sits between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals – unlike a flash remap, which rewrites the ECU. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

FAQs

Seat remapping: questions

1.9 or 2.0 TDI in a Leon or Ibiza: pump injector or common rail?

The catalogue lists pump-injector (PD) and common-rail (CR) versions separately, even when the power output is the same. In the Leon II the PD engines have codes such as BKD and the common-rail ones codes such as CFHC, so check your engine code before you choose. A UK Leon Mk3 2.0 TDI was listed at 150 hp, and the catalogue has a 2.0 TDI 150 hp row for the Leon III.

What does the GAN GT add to the 1.4 TSI and other SEAT turbo petrols?

In the catalogue the Ibiza 1.4 TSI goes from 150 hp and 240 Nm to 195 hp and 315 Nm with the GAN GT. Each of the 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4 TSI has its own rows, as do the Ibiza 1.4 TSI FR and Cupra. These are the stated gains for the engine type, not a dyno reading from your own car.

What can a SEAT 1.4 MPI, 1.6 or 2.0 FSI gain with the GAN GA+?

All three are naturally aspirated petrols, so they suit the GAN GA+, rated at up to 12% more power.

Tuning box or remap for a SEAT TSI or TDI?

A remap rewrites the factory software, whereas the GAN tuning box works between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals. The factory software, checksums and flash counter stay as they were, and the engine keeps its factory protections. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed and the box can come off at any time.

Do I need to tell my insurer about a GAN tuning box?

Tell them. A tuning box raises the output, and in Britain that is a declarable modification like any other performance change. Policies differ, so a quick call to your insurer before fitting is the safe route; the figures they will ask for are the stock and GAN outputs on your engine's page.

Will a tuning box affect my Seat warranty?

No. The box does not change the ECU software and can be removed at any time, so your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved. On top of that, we give an engine warranty: 2 years with the GAN GT, 1 year with the GAN GTL.

Tuning box or remap: which should I choose?

A flash remap permanently rewrites the maps in the ECU and leaves a trace in the flash counter. The GAN tuning box adjusts the sensor signals instead: the ECU stays in factory condition, and you can return the car to stock in about a minute. A flash remap can be the better choice if the engine has upgraded hardware, or if the car is out of warranty and you accept the risks.

About Seat engines

Seat chip tuning: what to know about the engines

SEAT remap or tuning box: Volkswagen engines under a Spanish badge

A SEAT tuning box is really a Volkswagen Group question: SEAT has belonged to the group since 1986 and shares its engines with Volkswagen, Audi and Škoda. The same engine families power the Golf, Octavia and A3 of those years: the Leon III runs the EA211 (1.0 to 1.5 TSI), the EA888 (1.8 and 2.0 TSI) and the EA288 (1.6 and 2.0 TDI). UK buyers call the third-generation Leon the Mk3.

SEAT trades under two names, SEAT and Cupra, and Cupra has been a brand in its own right since 2018. Until 2018 Cupra was simply the top trim, as in the Leon Cupra and the Cupra R. The Leon and the Ibiza are SEAT's two core models.

What the letters in SEAT engine names mean

TSI is a turbocharged direct-injection petrol, and every SEAT TSI from the 1.0 to the 2.0 has a turbo. The Ibiza 1.0 TSI is listed in Britain at 95 and 115 hp, and the catalogue has a row for each. TFSI is the older name for the same thing, as in the 2.0 TFSI of the Leon II FR, Cupra and Cupra R. FSI is direct injection without a turbo, so the 1.6 FSI and 2.0 FSI are naturally aspirated. MPI is a naturally aspirated petrol with multipoint injection, like the 1.0 MPI of the Ibiza V.

TDI is a turbodiesel, with pump injectors (PD) up to the end of the 2000s and common rail after that. On the 1.4 TSI at 150 hp and the 1.5 TSI, ACT switches off two of the cylinders. Ecomotive is a package for lower fuel use, as on the 1.6 TDI Ecomotive, not a separate engine. Most turbo engines suit the GAN GT (rated at up to 30% more power) and naturally aspirated ones the GAN GA+ (up to 12%); the catalogue decides which box applies to your engine.

Cupra, FR and the Ibiza Cupra

FR, for Formula Racing, is the sporty trim one step below Cupra. For a SEAT Leon Cupra remap the engine history runs from the 1.8T at 180 to 225 hp, via the 2.0 TFSI at 240 to 265 hp, to the 2.0 TSI at 265 to 300 hp. From 2009 to 2015 the Ibiza Cupra and FR used the 1.4 TSI Twincharger, which has both a supercharger and a turbo. In 2015 the Cupra switched to the 1.8 TSI at 192 hp.

Which SEAT models the catalogue covers

Beyond the Leon and Ibiza, the catalogue also covers the Altea, Toledo, Cordoba, Arosa, Alhambra, Exeo, Ateca, Arona and Tarraco. SEAT UK's current range lists the Ibiza, Arona and Leon; the Alhambra and Tarraco have been discontinued. The Inca, a van based on the Volkswagen Caddy, and the Málaga, a four-door Ibiza-based car of the 1980s, are not in the catalogue.

Which Seat models are in the catalog

The catalog covers 11 models from Seat. The most engines are listed for the Ibiza (56), Leon (45) and Toledo (21). The biggest gain among the models is on the Leon: up to +77 hp.

Naturally aspirated Seat engines

For 27 naturally aspirated engines from Seat, there is the GAN GA+: up to 12% more power and up to 15% lower fuel consumption in ECO mode, which means better MPG. You can fit it yourself, in most cases in under 15 minutes.
