Citroen remapping: questions
Is the 1.6 HDi 110 the same engine in the C3, C4, C5 and Berlingo, and what does the GAN GT add?
The catalogue lists each model and version on its own row: the C3 I has 109 hp and 240 Nm, and the C3 II, C4 II, C5 II and Berlingo have 111 hp and 270 Nm. Take the 111 hp C4 II: with the GAN GT it moves from 111 hp and 270 Nm to 143 hp and 348 Nm. Treat those as the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading from your car.
Does a tuning box change anything for the 1.2 PureTech and its wet timing belt?
PSA ran a recall and a service campaign over the wet belt, so it is a documented problem. Frequent oil changes help, and the belt can be checked through the oil filler neck. In Britain the question comes up on the C3, C4, C4 Cactus, C4 Picasso and C5 Aircross, and the answer depends on your exact engine and service interval. A tuning box adjusts sensor signals and touches neither the belt nor any other mechanical part, so it has no bearing on the belt question. The 110 hp PureTech in the C4 II and Berlingo takes the GAN GT, and so does the 130 hp version in the Berlingo.
Do the 1.6 THP and the 1.6 VTi take the same GAN box?
No: the THP is turbocharged and takes the GAN GT, whereas the naturally aspirated VTi takes the GAN GA+. On the earlier THP, the timing-chain tensioner and carbon build-up are the usual points to raise with a specialist.
Citroën HDi remap or tuning box: what is the difference?
It comes down to where the change is made: an ECU remap rewrites the factory software, whereas a tuning box sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals. With the GAN box the factory software, checksums and flash counter stay as they were, and the engine's own protections stay active. If the box is removed, nothing is left behind, since nothing was ever written to the ECU. Because the ECU software is never changed and the box can be removed at any time, your manufacturer's warranty is preserved.
Does a GAN tuning box affect my car insurance?
Yes, declare it. British insurers treat extra power as a modification, so the safe course is to tell them before you fit the box. How they treat it varies from one insurer to another, so ask before you fit the box; the standard and tuned figures you will be asked for are on your engine's page.
Will a tuning box affect my Citroen warranty?
No. The box does not change the ECU software and can be removed at any time, so your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved. On top of that, we give an engine warranty: 2 years with the GAN GT, 1 year with the GAN GTL.
Tuning box or remap: which should I choose?
A flash remap permanently rewrites the maps in the ECU and leaves a trace in the flash counter. The GAN tuning box adjusts the sensor signals instead: the ECU stays in factory condition, and you can return the car to stock in about a minute. A flash remap can be the better choice if the engine has upgraded hardware, or if the car is out of warranty and you accept the risks.
Citroen chip tuning: what to know about the engines
Citroën remap or tuning box? Most of it comes down to one diesel
For a Citroën remap or tuning box the answer usually starts with one diesel: the 1.6 HDi 110 in the C3, C4, C5, Berlingo and C3 Picasso. That engine is the DV6, which the first C3 received in October 2005 as the 1.6 HDi FAP with 109 hp. Later versions carry the BlueHDi badge, and in the Berlingo the engine comes with 75, 100 and 120 hp. In the catalogue the 1.6 HDi 110 FAP has its own entry for every model, so pick by model and by your car's exact stock figures.
UK sources quote the 1.6 HDi 110 at about 110 hp, while the catalogue stock figures run from 109 to 111 hp, so match your own car by its stock hp figure. The 2.0 HDi (DW10) follows the same pattern in the C4, the C5 and the Jumpy, which is called the Dispatch in the UK. Citroën remains an active UK brand, with the C3, C3 Aircross, C4, C5 Aircross and Berlingo on the current list, although several catalogue models have been discontinued. Turbodiesels, and the turbocharged THP and PureTech petrols, take the GAN GT, rated at up to 30% more power.
Petrol Citroëns: THP, PureTech and VTi
With Citroën petrols, the engine family (THP or PureTech) is what identifies the engine. The THP is a turbocharged 1.6 making 140, 150 or 156 hp in the C4 and C5, while the VTi is the naturally aspirated 1.6 making 120 hp. Both are Prince engines (EP6) developed jointly with BMW, whose own versions are called N12 to N18. A turbocharged 1.2 PureTech with 110 hp reached the C4 in May 2014 and the C3 Picasso in March 2015.
The C4 was also offered with a 130 hp PureTech. The naturally aspirated 1.6 VTi with 120 hp is a GAN GA+ engine. On the first C4 the 1.6 THP was rated at 140 hp up to November 2009 and at 150 hp up to August 2010.

Vans, large saloons and the DS models
The Jumper is the same van as the Fiat Ducato and Peugeot Boxer. From 2007 to 2010 its 2.2 HDi with 120 hp was a Ford Puma engine. The 2.0 BlueHDi with 110, 130 and 160 hp arrived on the Jumper in 2016, with the 2.2 BlueHDi at 140 hp following in June 2019. In Britain the Jumper is badged as the Relay, and the DS3, DS4 and DS5 are no longer sold as Citroëns. At the top of the C5 range sat twin-turbo V6 diesels, a 2.7 HDi with 204 hp (2008 and 2009) and, from September 2009, a 3.0 HDi 240 with 241 hp.
Toyota was a partner on the third-generation Jumpy (2016 onwards), which is built at Hordain. DS Automobiles was spun off from Citroën over 2014 and 2015, so the DS3, DS4 and DS5 started out as Citroën models. On the Berlingo, Dispatch and Relay, extra torque helps with a payload and on the motorway, but have the clutch and dual-mass flywheel checked before adding any.
