What makes the Citroen C2 special
Citroen C2 remap: VTR and VTS share one engine family
A tuning box is matched to the engine rather than the trim, so work out whether you have a VTR, a VTS or one of the diesels. In Britain the C2 was sold new under that name in LX, Rhythm, Design, Furio, VTR and VTS trims, the last two being the sporty versions, with no Mk number attached. The VTR and VTS share a 1.6 16V engine from the TU5 family, coded TU5JP4 and TU5JP4S. The VTR was sold from September 2003 to June 2006, and the VTS, the more powerful of the pair, from December 2004 to November 2009.
Both take the GAN GA+, as do the small 1.1 and 1.4 petrol engines. The 1.4 HDi 68 and the 1.6 HDi 110 FAP are turbo diesels, so they take the GAN GT. Only the VTS received the 1.6 HDi 110 FAP, from September 2006. FAP stands for a particulate filter, which is worth having checked before you fit any box.

C2 VTS and VTR: what does the GAN GA+ add?
The VTS goes to 140 hp and 160 Nm with the GAN GA+, and the VTR to 123 hp and 165 Nm. These are catalogue gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your own car. On these petrol engines the GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power. Both are naturally aspirated, so expect a modest step rather than the jump a turbo engine gives.
Citroen C2 1.4 HDi remap: which GAN box fits?
The 1.4 HDi 68 takes the GAN GT, which is rated at up to 30% more power on turbo engines. For the 160 Nm version, the figure for cars built from 2008, the catalogue lists 88 hp and 208 Nm; earlier 1.4 HDi cars start from 150 Nm. The box does not reprogram the gearbox, so a SensoDrive car keeps its gearbox settings as they are. If your car has SensoDrive, check the clutch actuator calibration first, since that is where those gearboxes tend to give trouble.
Does a GAN tuning box affect my car insurance?
Yes, declare it. British insurers treat extra power as a modification, so the safe course is to tell them before you fit the box. How they treat it varies from one insurer to another, so ask before you fit the box; the standard and tuned figures you will be asked for are in the table on this page.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
