GAN tuning box for Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi plug-in remap: no changes to the ECU software

The tuning box sits between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals – unlike a flash remap, which rewrites the ECU. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

FAQs

Mitsubishi remapping: questions

What does the GAN GT add to a Mitsubishi L200 2.5 DI-D?

The L200 2.5 DI-D goes from 136 hp and 314 Nm to 176 hp and 402 Nm with the GAN GT. These are the stated gains for the engine type, not a dyno reading from your own car. That diesel is also built in 167 and 178 hp versions, so match your car by output.

Pajero or Shogun 3.2 DI-D: which versions are covered for towing?

The GAN GT covers the Pajero 3.2 DI-D at 160, 170, 190 and 200 hp. Match your car by output and year: the diesel was reworked to 200 hp in January 2009 and has been rated at 190 hp since September 2015.

Which GAN box suits the Outlander and ASX diesels?

The Outlander's 2.2 DI-D and the ASX's 1.8 DI-D and 2.2 DI-D all suit the GAN GT. The Volkswagen 2.0 DI-D at 140 hp in the earlier Outlander is a different engine, matched with the GAN GA+, so check it by engine code.

Remap or tuning box for a DI-D diesel?

A remap overwrites the factory software in the engine control unit, so it is a different method from a tuning box. The GAN box works between the engine sensors and the ECU, adjusting their signals, so the factory software, checksums and flash counter remain untouched. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved, because the ECU software is never changed and the box can come off at any time.

Should I declare the GAN box to my insurer?

Tell them. A tuning box raises the output, and in Britain that is a declarable modification like any other performance change. Policies differ, so a quick call to your insurer before fitting is the safe route; the figures they will ask for are the stock and GAN outputs on your engine's page.

Will a tuning box affect my Mitsubishi warranty?

No. The box does not change the ECU software and can be removed at any time, so your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved. On top of that, we give an engine warranty: 2 years with the GAN GT, 1 year with the GAN GTL.

Tuning box or remap: which should I choose?

A flash remap permanently rewrites the maps in the ECU and leaves a trace in the flash counter. The GAN tuning box adjusts the sensor signals instead: the ECU stays in factory condition, and you can return the car to stock in about a minute. A flash remap can be the better choice if the engine has upgraded hardware, or if the car is out of warranty and you accept the risks.

About Mitsubishi engines

Mitsubishi chip tuning: what to know about the engines

Mitsubishi remap for towing and heavy loads

A Mitsubishi pickup or SUV is usually bought to tow or to carry a load, and both call for torque at low revs. In Britain, Mitsubishi's current range is the L200 pick-up and the Outlander PHEV. That is why a Mitsubishi tuning box is mostly about the DI-D diesels, the engines that suit the GAN GT. In Europe the Colt and the SUVs carried the brand, and the Lancer came back to Germany in autumn 2003 after a four-year gap. DI-D is the name Mitsubishi gives its direct-injection diesels. Those built since the 2000s are common-rail turbodiesels, including the 2.5 DI-D 4D56, the 3.2 DI-D 4M41 and the 2.4 DI-D 4N15.

Mitsubishi's own 3.2 DI-D, rated from 160 to 200 hp, powers the Pajero V60 and V80. In Britain the Pajero was sold as the Shogun, so search for your car under either name. A bought-in Volkswagen diesel, the 2.0 DI-D with 140 hp, powered the Lancer, Grandis and Outlander from 2004 to 2010. In 2010 the Lancer was given its own 1.8 DI-D with 116 hp. For a Mitsubishi L200 remap, look the L200 up by name; the same applies to the Outlander and ASX.

Which GAN box suits which Mitsubishi

In the catalogue most DI-D turbodiesels go with the GAN GT, rated at up to 30% more power, and most petrol engines with the GAN GA+, rated at up to 12%. The GAN GT covers the L200 2.5 DI-D at 136, 167 and 178 hp and the L200 2.4 DI-D at 154 and 181 hp. The Pajero (IV) 3.2 DI-D has GAN GT figures for every output: 160, 170, 190 and 200 hp.

The Outlander 2.2 DI-D and the ASX in 1.8 DI-D and 2.2 DI-D form also take the GAN GT, whereas two older engines, the Volkswagen 2.0 DI-D in the Outlander and the 3.2 TD in the Pajero (III), are matched with the GAN GA+. For the Lancer Evolution, with the 4G63T or 4B11T engine, go to the Lancer page and check the figure by engine code. The Outlander PHEV pairs a 2.0 petrol (4B11), later a 2.4 (4B12), with electric motors, so check the model page by engine rather than assuming a figure.

Reading Mitsubishi engine codes, and the brand in Europe

A Mitsubishi engine code has four characters, the first being the number of cylinders. A T on the end, as in 4G63T or 4B11T, marks the turbo version. In a version name such as 2.4 or 2.5 DI-D the number is the capacity in litres and says nothing about output.

MIVEC is Mitsubishi's variable valve timing, and it does not tell you whether the engine has a turbo. Mitsubishi announced its withdrawal from Europe in July 2020 and confirmed in early 2021 that the brand would remain in some countries, Germany and Austria among them. Since 2023 the Colt and the ASX have been supplied by Renault, on the Clio and Captur platforms, so look them up by engine.

Which Mitsubishi models are in the catalog

The catalog covers 36 models from Mitsubishi. The most engines are listed for the Pajero (30), Outlander (29) and Lancer (22). The biggest gain among the models is on the Pajero: up to +56 hp.

Naturally aspirated Mitsubishi engines

For 188 naturally aspirated engines from Mitsubishi, there is the GAN GA+: up to 12% more power and up to 15% lower fuel consumption in ECO mode, which means better MPG. You can fit it yourself, in most cases in under 15 minutes.
