What makes the Mitsubishi Outlander III special
Mitsubishi Outlander 3 remap: petrol and diesel with the same 150 hp
Two Outlander 3 (GF) versions make 150 hp: the 2.0 MIVEC petrol (4J11) and the 2.2 Di-D Clear Tec diesel (4N14). Torque separates them: the petrol makes 195 Nm, the diesel 380 Nm with the manual gearbox and 360 Nm with the automatic. Each one therefore needs a different box and gives a different gain. UK coverage treats the Outlander as one car from 2012 to 2021, badged 2.0 petrol or 2.2 DI-D ClearTec, with the PHEV in GX3h, GX4h and GX5h trims. On the diesel, the GAN GT turns 150 hp and 360 Nm into 194 hp and 464 Nm, a gain of 44 hp. The 2.0 petrol takes the GAN GA+ and rises from 150 hp to 168 hp.
Being naturally aspirated, it is about a modest gain in response, not a turbo-style jump. The PHEV is the third branch, sold in Europe from October 2013 until March 2022. Its petrol engine was a 2.0 with 121 hp until September 2018, then a 2.4 with 135 hp and 211 Nm. UK guidance puts the towing limit at 1600 kg for the 2.0 petrol and 1500 kg for the PHEV, worth remembering if you tow. The Outlander 3 reached Europe in autumn 2012; the diesel was dropped in 2018 and the petrol 2.0 in October 2021.

The diesel: the GAN GT can add up to 30% more power, the GAN GA+ up to 12%.
Outlander PHEV remap: what does the GAN GA+ do with the 2.4 petrol engine?
The PHEV's 2.4 petrol engine goes from 135 hp and 211 Nm to 151 hp and 236 Nm with the GAN GA+. None of this says anything about the two electric motors or the combined 224 hp. Treat both as catalogue figures for the engine type; neither is a dyno measurement of your own car.
Does the 2.2 Di-D module differ between automatic and manual Outlanders?
The catalogue has a single 2.2 Di-D Clear Tec version, 150 hp and 360 Nm, which matches the automatic. The manual, with 380 Nm as standard, has no row in the catalogue yet. The box does not reprogram the gearbox.
Will my insurer need to know about the tuning box?
Yes, declare it. British insurers treat extra power as a modification, so the safe course is to tell them before you fit the box. How they treat it varies from one insurer to another, so ask before you fit the box; the standard and tuned figures you will be asked for are in the table on this page.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
