What makes the Fiat Stilo special
Fiat Stilo remap: petrol first, diesel close behind
Of the Stilos registered in Germany between 2002 and 2009, about 71% ran on petrol and about 28% on diesel. In Britain the Stilo was sold new as a three-door or five-door hatchback and as the MultiWagon estate, in Active, Active Sport, Dynamic, GT and Abarth trims. Tuning a Stilo with a box therefore splits into two groups: the 1.9 diesels and the petrol engines. Fiat Stilo 1.9 JTD remap: the catalogue lists 80, 90, 101, 116, 120, 126, 140 and 150 hp, and each takes the GAN GT. UK used-car reviews cover the 1.9 JTD in 80 and 115 hp form, and the 115 hp car is the catalogue's 116 hp row.
UK reviewers describe the 1.9 JTD as powerful, refined and economical. The 103 hp 1.6 16V takes the GAN GA+. So does the five-cylinder 2.4 20V, which appears only in a few sporty trims such as the Abarth. The petrol 1.2, the 90 hp 1.4 and the 1.8 are not in the catalogue. Sales began in autumn 2001, and production of the hatchbacks ended in November 2006.

The catalogue rates this engine at 116 hp; the GAN GT brings it to 151 hp, a gain of 35 hp. The 1.9 JTD is a turbodiesel, so the GAN GT is rated at up to 30% more power on it. Treat these as catalogue gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your own car.
How much does the GAN GA+ add to the Stilo 1.6 16V of 103 hp?
GAN rates the GA+ at up to 12% more power, and the catalogue row shows a gain of 12 hp.
Do I need to tell my insurer about a GAN tuning box?
Tell them. A tuning box raises the output, and in Britain that is a declarable modification like any other performance change. Policies differ, so a quick call to your insurer before fitting is the safe route; the figures they will ask for are the stock and GAN outputs listed here.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
