Each engine has its own tuning box: GAN GT / GTL or GAN GA / GA+. Prices are per box and include the current discount.
Not sure which engine you have?
The badge alone is not enough: in this generation, the same engine designation came in different power outputs, each with its own calibration. Check the power output in your registration document and find the matching row.

Audi A3 8P remap: what changes
The GAN box plugs in between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals, while a flash remap rewrites the ECU itself. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

- +54 hpbest in this generation
2.0 TFSI 200 hp → 254 hp. The other engines gain at least +12 hp; check the table for each one.
- +89 Nmfor diesels
Diesels gain mostly torque: +30 to +89 Nm, which helps with overtaking and towing.
- up to +12%with the GAN GA+ on naturally aspirated engines
For 3 naturally aspirated engines: GAN GA / GAN GA+ tuning boxes; check the table for each engine’s figure.

What makes the Audi A3 8P special
Audi A3 8P remap: the diesel depends on the year
The build date comes first, because in April 2008 the 2.0 TDI in the Audi A3 8P changed from pump injectors to Common Rail, and that change decides which tuning box fits. Before the switch the engine had pump injectors and made 140 hp (BKD, BMM) or 170 hp (BMN), while the Common Rail cars that followed made 140 hp (CBAB) or 170 hp (CBBB). Pump-injector 1.9 TDI cars with 105 hp were built until October 2009, and the Common Rail 1.6 TDI, offered with 90 hp or 105 hp, took over from there. In Britain this car is known as the Audi A3 8P, or the second-generation A3, and it was sold as a three-door, a Sportback and a Cabriolet.
What the GAN box adds to each A3 8P engine
On the Common Rail 2.0 TDI, the GAN GT lifts the 140 hp car to 160 hp and the 170 hp car to 204 hp. The older pump-injector cars use the GAN GA+ instead: the 2.0 TDI PD goes from 140 hp to 157 hp, and the 1.9 TDI from 105 hp to 118 hp. For the 1.6 TDI, chip tuning means 136 hp from a 105 hp start. Among the petrol engines, the 2.0 TFSI goes from 200 hp to 254 hp, the 1.8 TFSI from 160 hp to 206 hp and the 1.4 TFSI from 125 hp to 149 hp.
The naturally aspirated 1.6, 2.0 FSI and 3.2 VR6 take the GAN GA+, which is rated at up to 12% more power. UK cars had either a 102 hp 1.6 petrol or a 115 hp 1.6 FSI, and the catalogue has a row for the 102 hp car only, so check the hp figure in your registration document first. Treat these as stated gains for each engine type, not a dyno reading from your own A3.
Audi A3 8P remap: common questions
Audi A3 2.0 TDI remapping: do the BKD or the CBAB figures apply?
Go by the injection system: the BKD of 2003 to 2006 and the BMM are pump-injector engines, so they use the figures for the 140 hp 2.0 TDI PD. The CBAB, from April 2008, is Common Rail and uses the figures for the 140 hp 2.0 TDI.
What should I check on an A3 8P before fitting a tuning box?
The chain-driven 1.8 TFSI (EA888) can use a lot of oil, though on the A3 8P that happens only in isolated cases. On the early 1.6 petrol cars with 102 hp, the thermostat and the water pump are the parts to look at. On the pump-injector 2.0 TDI, have the oil-pump drive checked first, particularly on the BLB and BRE engines fitted from around 2004 to 2008, because a failure there can cause severe engine damage. The 1.6 TDI and the EA189 2.0 TDI are known for EGR faults, sometimes after an emissions software update, with a warning light and reduced power.
Audi A3 chip tuning: a plug-in tuning box or a flash remap?
A flash remap rewrites the software inside the ECU, whereas the GAN tuning box plugs into the existing sensor connectors and adjusts their signals instead. The factory ECU software stays as it is and the box can come off at any time, so your manufacturer's warranty is preserved.
Do I need to tell my insurer about a GAN tuning box?
Yes. In the UK a power increase counts as a modification, and insurers expect to be told about it before you drive with the box fitted. Each insurer handles it differently, so check with yours first and quote the before-and-after output from the table above.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
