What makes the Audi S3 8V special
Audi S3 8V stage 1 remap: one engine, three power levels
Every Audi S3 8V uses the same engine, the 2.0 TFSI EA888 Gen 3, with quattro and a Haldex clutch, so the build date is what matches the tuning box to your car. In Britain the car is badged S3 quattro, and listings separate pre-facelift cars from facelift cars, with the facelift generally dated from 2016. Output is 300 hp and 380 Nm from May 2013, 310 hp from May 2016, and back to 300 hp from November 2018, when torque rose to 400 Nm and a particulate filter appeared.
The manual gearbox has six speeds, and so does the S tronic until 2016, after which it has seven. The Cabriolet, launched in July 2014, was offered with the S tronic only.
What the GAN GT adds to the 8V
Fitted with the GAN GT, the 300 hp car with 380 Nm reaches 351 hp and 445 Nm. The facelift's 310 hp version goes to 363 hp. The 2018 version with 300 hp and 400 Nm has no row of its own under the S3 8V; find the same engine under the VW T-Roc 2.0 TSI R. On early cars with higher mileage, keep an eye on the oil level before and after you fit the box.

2016 Audi S3 remap: is it the 300 hp or the 310 hp car?
Cars up to April 2016 have 300 hp; from May 2016 the engine makes 310 hp, with 380 Nm on the manual and 400 Nm on the S tronic. In other words, the build date settles it, not the badge.
Does the tuning box affect the S tronic or the quattro system on an S3 8V?
No. The box does not reprogram the gearbox. Haldex servicing is worth checking on an 8V S3, because missed oil services are linked to reduced rear-drive operation or uneven power distribution. The S tronic can be hesitant or jerky on shifts, so look at its servicing and software updates too, bearing in mind that later cars have a seven-speed unit rather than six.
Audi S3: GAN tuning box or flash remap?
A flash remap rewrites the ECU software, while the GAN box adjusts the sensor signals instead, so the checksums of the factory software stay as they are. The ECU software is never changed and the module can be removed at any time, so your manufacturer's warranty is preserved. The figures are stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading from your own S3.
Does a GAN tuning box affect my car insurance?
Yes, declare it. British insurers treat extra power as a modification, so the safe course is to tell them before you fit the box. How they treat it varies from one insurer to another, so ask before you fit the box; the standard and tuned figures you will be asked for are in the table on this page.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
