Find your engine by the power output in your registration document: each version has its own module calibration.
Audi S5 remap: what changes
More power and torque without rewriting the ECU or swapping any parts. The GAN box only adjusts the engine sensor signals. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the Audi S5 special
Audi S5 remap and the 4.2 V8
An Audi S5 remap or tuning box here centres on one engine: the 4.2 FSI V8 of the S5 Coupé 8T, built from March 2007 to August 2011. It is a direct-injection V8 with no turbocharger, from the EA824 family. In Britain the original Coupé was badged S5 4.2 FSI quattro. It produces 354 hp at 7,000 rpm and 440 Nm at 3,500 rpm, under the engine code CAUA.
Every car has quattro, with a six-speed manual or a six-speed Tiptronic. On early 4.2 FSI cars, carbon deposits on the intake valves cause uneven running and lost power, so have that checked before you fit a box. The base V8 is shared with the RS5, though the S5 is rated at 354 hp.
What changed after 2011
At the 2011 facelift the V8 left the Coupé and the S5 took on a supercharged 3.0 TFSI with 333 hp and 440 Nm. CGWC and CGXC are the Coupé 3.0 TFSI codes, followed by CREC from 2014, and the Cabriolet and Sportback use CCBA and CAKA. On the 3.0 TFSI the water pump and the thermostat are specific checks for a used car.
From the start the Cabriolet (2009–2017) and Sportback (2009–2016) were built with the 3.0 TFSI, and neither ever had the V8. The F5 generation (2016–2024) has a 3.0 TFSI V6 with 354 hp, and Europe also had a 347 hp S5 TDI from 2019.
S5 names and codes
B8 is the name for the first S5 with the 4.2 V8, and B8.5 for the facelifted 3.0 TFSI car. Audi codes the Coupé 8T3, and the B9 (F5) generation was built from 2016 to 2024. The V8 goes by the plain name S5 4.2 V8, and it takes the GAN GA+.
Audi S5 remap: common questions
What can the GAN GA+ add to the S5's naturally aspirated V8?
The GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power on naturally aspirated engines. Output on the S5 4.2 V8 goes from 354 hp and 440 Nm to 382 hp and 475 Nm. Both figures are gains stated for the engine type, not a measurement taken on your own car.
Does the S5 share its V8 with the RS5, and why do the figures differ?
Both start from the 4.2 FSI V8 of the EA824 family. Catalogue figures apply to the S5 alone, because it is rated at 354 hp at 7,000 rpm.
Is the 2012 S5 with the 3.0 TFSI the same engine?
No, the later S5 has a supercharged 3.0 TFSI V6 making 333 hp and 440 Nm. Because this page is about the 4.2 V8, identify your car by its engine, not by the S5 badge.
Audi S5: tuning box or flash remap?
Unlike a flash remap, the GAN box doesn't rewrite your ECU software. It adjusts the engine sensor signals before they reach the ECU. Nothing is ever written to the ECU, so no traces remain when you take the box off. The box uses the existing connectors and comes off in about a minute.
Does a GAN tuning box affect my car insurance?
Tell them. A tuning box raises the output, and in Britain that is a declarable modification like any other performance change. Policies differ, so a quick call to your insurer before fitting is the safe route; the figures they will ask for are the stock and GAN outputs listed here.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
