Not sure which engine you have?
The badge alone is not enough: in this generation, the same engine designation came in different power outputs, each with its own calibration. Check the power output in your registration document and find the matching row.

Audi TT 8N remap: what changes
More power and torque without rewriting the ECU or swapping any parts. The GAN box only adjusts the engine sensor signals. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the Audi TT 8N special
Audi TT Mk1 remap: the 225 hp quattro against the 180
Around 276,500 Audi TT Typ 8N (Mk1) cars were built between 1998 and 2006, and the tuning box covers the three engines listed in the catalogue. In Britain the car is the Audi TT Mk1, also called the TT 8N, and it was sold as a Coupé or a Roadster in 1.8T and 3.2 quattro versions. The 180 hp 1.8 T uses a K03 turbocharger and reaches 202 hp, while the 225 hp 1.8 T quattro has a K04 and reaches 252 hp. The 225 is the more sought-after tuning base because of its K04 turbocharger, and the 180 is the lower-cost alternative.
Both are turbocharged 1.8 T 20V units with multipoint injection, so the TFSI badge does not apply to them. The 3.2 VR6 with 250 hp joined the range in 2003 and reaches 280 hp with the GAN GA+. The GAN GA+ suits all three engines and is rated at up to 12% more power.
Torque with the GAN GA+
On the 180 hp 1.8 T the GAN GA+ lifts torque from 235 Nm to 263 Nm. On the 225 hp quattro, torque climbs from 280 Nm to 314 Nm. The 3.2 VR6 climbs from 320 Nm to 358 Nm; it was sold with quattro only, paired with either a six-speed manual or the DSG. On a car built between 1999 and 2006, check the turbocharger, the boost control and the diverter valve first, since age-related faults there can reduce performance.
Audi TT 8N remap: common questions
Does my Audi TT Mk1 with 150, 163, 190 or 240 hp have a row in the catalogue?
The 150 hp 1.8 T has no separate TT 8N row; look for the same engine under the 1.8 TFSI 150 hp of the Audi A3 8L. The 163 hp 1.8 T is the same story: it sits under another model, as the 1.8T 163 hp of the Audi A4 B7. There is no row yet for the 190 hp 1.8 T or for the 240 hp 1.8 T of the quattro Sport.
Audi TT 8N 180 remap: which GAN tuning box fits the 1.8 T?
The GAN GA+ is the box for the 180 hp 1.8 T, in front-wheel-drive and quattro cars alike. The 190 hp engine took over from the 180 hp version in September 2005.
Audi TT Mk1: GAN tuning box or flash remap?
A flash remap lives in the ECU, whereas the GAN tuning box works on the sensor signals, and when you take it off no traces remain. The ECU software is never changed and the module can be removed at any time, so your manufacturer's warranty is preserved. The figures are stated gains for these engine types, not dyno readings from your own TT.
Should I declare the GAN box to my insurer?
Yes. In the UK a power increase counts as a modification, and insurers expect to be told about it before you drive with the box fitted. Each insurer handles it differently, so check with yours first and quote the before-and-after output from the table above.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
