Each engine has its own tuning box: GAN GT / GTL or GAN GA / GA+. Prices are per box and include the current discount.
Not sure which engine you have?
The badge alone is not enough: in this generation, the same engine designation came in different power outputs, each with its own calibration. Check the power output in your registration document and find the matching row.

BMW 1 Series F20 remap: what changes
The GAN box plugs in between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals, while a flash remap rewrites the ECU itself. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the BMW 1 Series F20 special
BMW 1 Series F20 remap: the March 2015 facelift is the dividing line
The F20 is the five-door 1 Series built from June 2011 to June 2019; the three-door car is the F21. In Britain the facelift is usually called the LCI, and the badges run from the 114d and 116d through the 120d and 125i to the M135i and M140i. Do not confuse it with the F70, the 1 Series from 2024, which is a separate generation. Because the engines changed with the March 2015 facelift, the build date decides which tuning box suits an F20. Pre-facelift petrol cars have the N13 or N20 (the N55 in the M135i), and the diesels have the N47.
The B38 and B48 petrols and the B47 and B37 diesels arrived from 2015, replacing the N-series engines gradually until the last N13, N20 and N55 cars went in 2016. The 120d moved up from 184 hp and 380 Nm to 190 hp and 400 Nm, and the 118d from 143 hp to 150 hp. The 125d went from 218 hp to 224 hp, both at 450 Nm, and the later car was offered only with the eight-speed automatic. The M135i made 320 hp and later 326 hp, and in July 2016 the M140i arrived with the B58 engine and 340 hp.
What the GAN GT does for the 120d
A 120d rated at 190 hp and 400 Nm reaches 225 hp and 505 Nm with the GAN GT. If your diesel F20 mostly does short urban trips, remember that DPF regeneration can be difficult in that kind of use. That is the stated gain for this engine type, not a dyno reading from your own BMW.
BMW 1 Series F20 remap: common questions
Does the N47 timing chain matter on a 118d or 120d before you fit a tuning box?
On the N47 the timing chain is at the rear of the engine, and a rattle is the warning sign. Have it inspected from about 100 thousand km onwards; chain failures are a known issue on BMW diesels built up to 2015. From March 2015 the B47 took over, and it is a different engine.
BMW 118d remap: stage 1 or a tuning box?
Stage 1 normally refers to a software change, in which a flash remap replaces the factory software inside the engine control unit. The GAN tuning box never replaces that software. The ECU software is never changed and the module can be removed at any time, so your manufacturer's warranty is preserved.
My F20 116i makes 109 hp: is it the older 136 hp engine?
No. The 136 hp 116i with the 1.6-litre N13 was built until January 2015. That earlier N13 is the one with timing-chain concerns and faults in the water pump, thermostat housing and expansion tank, so its history matters. Since the facelift the 116i has the 1.5-litre three-cylinder B38 with 109 hp and 180 Nm, and that is the engine in the catalogue.
Will my insurer need to know about the tuning box?
Tell them. A tuning box raises the output, and in Britain that is a declarable modification like any other performance change. Policies differ, so a quick call to your insurer before fitting is the safe route; the figures they will ask for are the stock and GAN outputs listed here.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
