Daihatsu Terios remap: what changes
More power and torque without rewriting the ECU or swapping any parts. The GAN box only adjusts the engine sensor signals. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the Daihatsu Terios special
Daihatsu Terios remap: the 1.3 or the 1.5
Two generations of Terios reached Europe, so there are two engines to choose between for a tuning box: a 1.3 in the first and a 1.5 in the second. Rated at 86 hp, the 1.3 K3-VE is the first-generation engine; the 1.5 3SZ-VE has 104 hp and 140 Nm. Daihatsu sold the Terios in Britain from 1997 until it left the UK new-car market, with the second-generation range sold as the Terios S, SX and SE. UK road tests found overtaking in the 1.5 limited, which is where extra output helps.
In Europe the second generation had the 1.5 only, with permanent four-wheel drive and front-wheel-drive versions added later. Those two figures, 86 hp and 104 hp, are the catalogue starting points for a Terios. Neither engine is turbocharged, which is why both are matched to the GAN GA+.
Terios I and Terios II: what each generation offers
The first generation, the J100, reached Europe in 1997 as a compact off-roader with engines derived from the Charade. The 1.3 HC-EJ came first, with four-wheel drive from 1997 to 1999. In 2000 it gave way to the 1.3 K3-VE with 86 hp, offered with four- or two-wheel drive and a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. At 1,297 cc, the K3-VE has a DOHC cylinder head. The Terios Kid (0.66 turbo) and the 140 hp K3-VET were Japan-only; the catalogue carries the Kid engine as the 0.7i with 64 hp and 107 Nm, and the K3-VET has no row. A chrome grille arrived with the 2000 facelift.
Europe sold the J200, the second generation, until 2013 or 2014, with sales in Germany ending in early 2013. The 3SZ-VE (1,495 cc) has variable valve timing. Again a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic was on offer. Published figures for the 1.5 range from 102 hp to 105 hp; the catalogue uses 104 hp. Beyond Europe, the Toyota Rush is the second-generation car under another name.
Daihatsu Terios remap: common questions
Terios 1.5 remap with a GAN box: how much more power?
The GAN GA+ lifts the engine from 104 hp to 116 hp and 157 Nm. The box is rated at up to 12% more power; read that as the stated gain for the engine type, not a dyno reading of your own car.
Which figures belong to the first-generation 1.3?
The 86 hp figure belongs to the 1.3 K3-VE built from 2000. Use the 1.3 for a Terios I and the 1.5 for a Terios II.
Does a tuning box affect the four-wheel-drive system?
The GAN module sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals, so it acts on the engine side only. It does not reprogram the gearbox.
Does a GAN tuning box affect my car insurance?
Yes. In the UK a power increase counts as a modification, and insurers expect to be told about it before you drive with the box fitted. Each insurer handles it differently, so check with yours first and quote the before-and-after output from the table above.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
