What makes the Ford Streetka special
Ford StreetKa remap: one engine, one tuning box
Roof down on an A-road, 95 hp and 12.1 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h leave little in hand when you pull out to overtake. It is a light roadster, at around 1,136 kg. A StreetKa remap is simple on one count: the car has a single engine for a tuning box to work with, the 1.6 Duratec RoCam with 95 hp and 135 Nm. The British car came with that 1.6 petrol and a five-speed manual gearbox.
As a naturally aspirated engine it takes the GAN GA+. Gains on a naturally aspirated 1.6 are modest, not the jumps you get on a turbo engine. Around 37,000 of the roadsters were built by Pininfarina between 2002 and 2006. In Britain it was marketed as the StreetKa, not as a trim level of the Ka.

StreetKa 1.6: what does the GAN GA+ add?
The 1.6i moves from 95 hp and 135 Nm to 106 hp and 151 Nm with the GAN GA+. For a naturally aspirated 1.6 like this one, the GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power. Those are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading from your car.
Does a SportKa work the same way?
Yes, the SportKa has the same 1.6 Duratec RoCam with 95 hp from 2003, so the same figures apply.
Will my insurer need to know about the tuning box?
Yes. In the UK a power increase counts as a modification, and insurers expect to be told about it before you drive with the box fitted. Each insurer handles it differently, so check with yours first and quote the before-and-after output from the table above.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
