What makes the Honda Stepwgn special
Stepwgn remap: a Honda built for another market
Honda never sold the Stepwgn in Europe; it is an eight-seat people carrier, and since 2015 its exports have gone only to countries in Asia. In Britain it arrives as a grey import from Japan, not through Honda UK. Because of that, a Honda Stepwgn remap with a tuning box works from the engines of its Japanese home market. The codes of its generations are RF (1996–2005), RG (2005–2009), RK (2009–2015) and RP (from 2015).
The RP comes in two stages: the RP1 to RP5 up to 2022, and the RP6 to RP8 since then. Honda's people carriers on European roads were the Stream and the FR-V. In 2017 a Spanish magazine observed that Europe had no people carrier quite like the Stepwgn. Among the RP engines, the 1.5 turbo (150 hp, 203 Nm) is matched to the GAN GT, which adds 43 hp and 61 Nm.
The naturally aspirated 2.0 i-VTEC
The 2.0 i-VTEC without a turbo comes in three versions of 150, 155 and 160 hp, all on the GAN GA+, with gains of 18 hp, 19 hp and 19 hp and 23 Nm each time. Spada is only a trim line: the Spada 2.0 at 150 hp shares its figures with the plain 2.0 at 150 hp. The engine codes of the naturally aspirated versions are B20B, K20A, K24A and R20A.
Buying one as an import
Day to day, the Stepwgn 2.0 i-VTEC offers between 150 and 155 hp. From 2009 to 2015 the RK carried only the 2.0 with 150 hp, which means an RK import must be the 150 hp version.

Stepwgn 1.5 turbo: what does the GAN GT add?
On the GAN GT, the 1.5 turbo goes from 150 hp and 203 Nm to 193 hp and 264 Nm. The GAN GT is rated at up to 30% more power on a turbo petrol like this one; read that as the stated gain for the engine type, not a dyno figure from your own car.
Is the Stepwagon the same as the Stepwgn?
Yes. Stepwgn, Step WGN and StepWagon all name one model, and the figures for the Honda Stepwagon are identical. UK listings tend to write StepWGN or Stepwagon, keep Japanese badges such as Spada and Hybrid, and use RG, RK and RP as Japanese generation codes, not British Mk numbers.
What does the GAN GA+ give the 2.0 i-VTEC?
The GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power, so a naturally aspirated Stepwgn gains less than the turbo. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved, because the module never changes the ECU software and can be removed at any time.
Should I declare the GAN box to my insurer?
Yes. In the UK a power increase counts as a modification, and insurers expect to be told about it before you drive with the box fitted. Each insurer handles it differently, so check with yours first and quote the before-and-after output from the table above.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
