What makes the Hyundai Coupe special
Hyundai Coupe remap: sporty looks, no turbo
None of the three engines in the catalogue has a turbo: the 1.6 CVVT, the 2.0 CVVT and the 2.7 V6 are all naturally aspirated. That makes the Coupe a GAN GA+ car: the 2.7 V6 with 167 hp, or 165 hp from 2007, gains 20 hp and 29 Nm. UK road tests praised the sound of the 2.7 V6 but found its performance less impressive than its engine note. Used-car guides call the 2.0 the sensible middle choice, and the 1.6 is commonly described as underpowered.
Hyundai sold the Coupe in Britain from 1996 to 2009. The GK covered here is the car of 2002 to 2009; the older RD has its place on the Hyundai Tiburon page. The GK engines use a timing belt, so check from the service history that it was changed on time.

What does a Coupe 2.0 gain from a tuning box?
The GAN GA+ lifts the 2.0 CVVT from 143 hp and 186 Nm to 160 hp and 208 Nm. The 1.6 CVVT with 105 hp gains 13 hp and 17 Nm from the same box. The GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power; read the figures as the stated gains for the engine type, not a dyno result from your car.
Coupe tuning box or flash remap?
Two methods are on offer: a flash remap rewrites the factory software in the engine control unit (ECU), while the GAN tuning box sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals. The Coupe's ECU stays as it is: the factory software, checksums and flash counter are not touched. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved, because the ECU software is never changed and the box can be removed at any time.
Do I need to tell my insurer about a GAN tuning box?
Yes, declare it. British insurers treat extra power as a modification, so the safe course is to tell them before you fit the box. How they treat it varies from one insurer to another, so ask before you fit the box; the standard and tuned figures you will be asked for are in the table on this page.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
