What makes the Hyundai Genesis special
Hyundai Genesis remap: three cars share one name
To a tuner, Genesis means three different things: the Genesis Coupe, the Hyundai Genesis saloon, or a car from the Genesis brand, a separate make since 2015. We cover the two Hyundai models here; whichever you drive, the box has to suit its engine and year. Production of the rear-wheel-drive Genesis Coupe (BK) began in 2008, German sales ran from two years later until 2015, and 136,597 were built worldwide. There were four versions of it.
The 2.0 turbo made 214 hp until August 2012 and 275 hp from then on, while the naturally aspirated 3.8 V6 made 303 hp, later 347 hp. Torque on the 3.8 V6 was 361 Nm, later 400 Nm. The 2012 facelift brought the 275 hp car, which has 373 Nm. Buyers chose between a six-speed manual, a six-speed ZF automatic and, later, an eight-speed automatic.
The saloon, and cars from other markets
Germany sold the Hyundai Genesis saloon (DH) from September 2014 to March 2017. Britain had the second-generation saloon officially from 2015, in very small numbers, but never the first-generation car. A single engine powered it: the 3.8 V6 GDI, 315 hp and 397 Nm. British road tests quote that 3.8 GDi V6 at 311 in the UK's own power unit, which equals 315 PS, so a UK car is the catalogue's 315 hp row rather than the 311 hp row beside it. UK cars came rear-wheel drive only, with the eight-speed automatic fitted to every one.
In Britain it was badged simply Genesis rather than Genesis G80, in a single specification level. The saloon appears in the catalogue as the 3.8 with 315 hp. The catalogue also takes in the first-generation Genesis saloon (BH) and versions for other markets, none of which Hyundai sold in Europe. The 2.0 turbo takes the GAN GT, and the V6 engines take the GAN GA+.
Hyundai Genesis remap: common questions
Genesis Coupe 2.0 turbo remap: 214 hp or 275 hp?
Until August 2012 the 214 hp car was sold; from August 2012 to September 2015 it was the 275 hp car. The catalogue turbo row of 250 hp and 373 Nm is neither European version, 214 hp or 275 hp, so do not use its figures for either.
Genesis saloon: what does the GAN GA+ add?
The saloon starts at 315 hp and 397 Nm and reaches 340 hp and 429 Nm with the GAN GA+. The GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power, and the GAN GT for the 2.0 turbo at up to 30%. Those are the stated gains for the engine type, not a dyno reading from your car.
Is the coupe's 3.8 V6 naturally aspirated?
Yes, the 3.8 V6 at 303 hp, later 347 hp, has no turbocharger.
Does this page cover the Genesis G70 and G80?
No. Genesis has been a separate brand since 2015, with the G70, G80 and GV70.
Will my insurer need to know about the tuning box?
Yes, declare it. British insurers treat extra power as a modification, so the safe course is to tell them before you fit the box. How they treat it varies from one insurer to another, so ask before you fit the box; the standard and tuned figures you will be asked for are in the table on this page.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
