Not sure which engine you have?
The badge alone is not enough: in this generation, the same engine designation came in different power outputs, each with its own calibration. Check the power output in your registration document and find the matching row.

Hyundai Kona remap: what changes
The GAN box plugs in between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals, while a flash remap rewrites the ECU itself. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the Hyundai Kona special
Hyundai Kona remap: the 1.6 T-GDI in two calibrations
Start with one question: does a box suit the Kona 1.6 T-GDI at 177 hp or at 198 hp? Europe saw the first-generation Kona OS in November 2017, then the facelift in November 2020. In Britain Hyundai has sold the Kona officially from the start, and the first generation is commonly called the Mk1.
Cars built between June 2018 and November 2020 carry the 177 hp engine: 265 Nm, all-wheel drive and a 7-speed DCT. The November 2020 facelift lifted the same engine to 198 hp with 265 Nm unchanged, and the Kona II keeps it. G4FJ and G4FP are the engine codes of the two calibrations, so your car's year and engine code settle which one it has.
The 1.0 T-GDI, the Kona N and the hybrids
The 1.0 T-GDI is rated at 120 hp and 172 Nm and comes with a six-speed manual gearbox. The Kona II brings the 1.0 T-GDI back at 100 hp from August 2024, and at 115 hp from August 2025. Neither the 100 hp nor the 115 hp 1.0 T-GDI has a row in the catalogue. The Kona N, with a 2.0 T-GDI at 280 hp and 392 Nm, has no Kona row of its own: the same engine is listed as the 2.0 N Performance of the Hyundai i30.
In Britain the Kona N, sold from 2021 to 2023, was a separate front-wheel-drive performance model, not just another 1.6 T-GDi trim. The 1.6 CRDi at 136 hp and 320 Nm is not in the Kona catalogue either; look under the 1.6 CRDi of the Hyundai Tucson. The Kona Electric has no combustion engine, so this page leaves it out. The Kona II has been sold in Europe since April 2023 and comes without a diesel.
Hyundai Kona remap: common questions
Kona 1.6 T-GDi remap: is mine the 177 hp or the 198 hp?
Code G4FJ means the 177 hp engine, built between June 2018 and November 2020. Code G4FP means the 198 hp engine, in production since the November 2020 facelift.
What does the GAN GT add to the Kona 1.6 T-GDI at 177 hp?
The 177 hp car starts at 265 Nm and reaches 226 hp and 360 Nm with the GAN GT. For turbocharged engines such as this, the GAN GT is rated at up to 30% more power. Those are the stated gains for the engine type, not a dyno reading from your car.
Is the Kona 1.0 T-GDI in the catalogue?
It does: the 1.0 T-GDI at 120 hp and 172 Nm has a row, though no year is given. British first-generation Konas list the same 120 hp and 172 Nm for this engine.
Is the 141 hp of the Kona Hybrid an engine output?
No, 141 hp is the system output: the 1.6 GDI petrol engine makes 105 hp and 147 Nm, and the electric motor makes up the rest. The 141 hp shown for the 1.6 GDI in the catalogue is that hybrid system output, not an engine output. UK reviews quote the same 141 hp system output, so the Hybrid is not treated as a turbo engine. The 175 hp version and the 2.0i at 149 hp are for other markets.
Should I declare the GAN box to my insurer?
Yes, declare it. British insurers treat extra power as a modification, so the safe course is to tell them before you fit the box. How they treat it varies from one insurer to another, so ask before you fit the box; the standard and tuned figures you will be asked for are in the table on this page.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
