About the generation

What makes the Infiniti Q50 special

Infiniti Q50 remap: the engines come from Mercedes

Most European Infiniti Q50s run Mercedes engines, with the hybrid and the 3.0t as the Nissan exceptions. In Britain the badges read Q50 2.2d, Q50 2.0t and Q50 Hybrid. Infiniti sold the Q50 new in Britain until its 2020 withdrawal, so the cars on offer today are used ones. The 2.2d is the Mercedes OM651 diesel with 170 hp and 400 Nm; the 2.0t is the M274 petrol, rated at 211 hp and 350 Nm.

So a Q50 remap with a tuning box is chosen by engine: the 2.2d or the 2.0t. The 2.2d goes from 170 hp to 218 hp and the 2.0t from 211 hp to 242 hp, and both Mercedes engines take the GAN GT. The 3.5 Hybrid is rated at 364 hp system output, the 3.0t at 405 hp.

Infiniti has withdrawn from the UK new-car market: does that change how the box works?

Infiniti announced it was leaving in March 2019, and the last new cars were sold in early 2020. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved: the box never changes the ECU software, and it can be taken off at any time.

Do I need to tell my insurer about a GAN tuning box?

Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?

Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
