Each engine has its own tuning box: GAN GT / GTL or GAN GA / GA+. Prices are per box and include the current discount.
Not sure which engine you have?
The badge alone is not enough: in this generation, the same engine designation came in different power outputs, each with its own calibration. Check the power output in your registration document and find the matching row.

Jaguar X-Type remap: what changes
The GAN box plugs in between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals, while a flash remap rewrites the ECU itself. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the Jaguar X-Type special
Jaguar X-Type remap: a Ford platform under the Jaguar badge
A Jaguar suggests engines of its own, but the X-Type sits on the Ford Mondeo platform. The diesels bear this out, being Ford Duratorq units of the kind fitted to the Mondeo and the Transit. Your engine decides which tuning box fits, and every one of them has its own. Jaguar sold the X-Type new in Britain for its whole production run, so every car here is now a used one.
Production ran from April 2001 to December 2009, as a saloon and, from January 2004, as an estate. About 350,000 were built in total, and the facelift of November 2007 changed the front end, the rear and the lamps. Early cars were all-wheel drive; the front-wheel-drive base models, the 2.0 V6 and the 2.0 D, followed from mid-2002.
The X-Type's diesel and petrol engines
The 2.0 D, which the catalogue lists as the 2.0 TD at 131 hp and 330 Nm, ran from July 2003 to July 2005. The 2.2 D made 155 hp from July 2005 to December 2006, and the facelifted car with a particulate filter followed in 2007 at 145 hp. The 145 hp car was also the first X-Type diesel offered with an automatic. Only the 145 hp car has a particulate filter; the 155 hp car does without. British adverts badge the engines 2.0 Diesel, 2.2 Diesel, 2.0 V6, 2.5 V6 and 3.0 V6, with SE and Sport as the usual trims.
The 2.0 diesel is the economy-minded choice, while the 2.2 diesel is the stronger, torque-focused engine. The petrol V6s are the 2.0 at 156 hp, the 2.5 at 196 hp and the 3.0 at 231 hp. The 2.0 V6 actually displaces 2.1 litres, hence the 2.1i in the catalogue. The 2.5 and 3.0 were sold with all-wheel drive only.
Jaguar X-Type remap: common questions
What does a Jaguar X-Type 2.2 D remap with the GAN box add?
On the GAN GT the 2.2 D rises from 155 hp and 360 Nm to 200 hp and 457 Nm. The diesels take the GAN GT, rated at up to 30% more power. Those are the stated gains for the engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
Is my X-Type 2.2 D the 155 hp car or the 145 hp car with the particulate filter?
The year and the filter settle it: the 155 hp car has no filter and dates from 2005 to 2006, while the 145 hp car has one and dates from 2007 to 2009. Both are covered by the GAN GT.
Is there a tuning box for the X-Type 2.5 V6 and 3.0 V6?
Yes: the 2.5 is listed at 196 hp and 241 Nm and the 3.0 at 231 hp and 279 Nm, and both take the GAN GA+. On V6s like these the GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power.
Does the same apply to the X-Type Estate?
Wherever the engine is the same the figures are the same, so choose by engine rather than body style.
Do I need to tell my insurer about a GAN tuning box?
Yes, declare it. British insurers treat extra power as a modification, so the safe course is to tell them before you fit the box. How they treat it varies from one insurer to another, so ask before you fit the box; the standard and tuned figures you will be asked for are in the table on this page.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
