Not sure which engine you have?
The badge alone is not enough: in this generation, the same engine designation came in different power outputs, each with its own calibration. Check the power output in your registration document and find the matching row.

Kia Niro remap: what changes
More power and torque without rewriting the ECU or swapping any parts. The GAN box only adjusts the engine sensor signals. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the Kia Niro special
Kia Niro remap: the petrol engine or the whole hybrid?
A Niro raises two questions: can a hybrid be tuned at all, and which power figure does a tuning box change? There is no Niro without an electric motor; the system output is 141 hp and 265 Nm. The catalogue figures of 105 hp and 147 Nm describe the 1.6 GDi petrol engine on its own, which is only one part of that system. The box works on the petrol engine's signals, so it is the 105 hp, not the combined system figure, that it changes.
In both generations, the first from 2016 to 2022 and the current one from 2022, the 1.6 GDi works alongside an electric motor. Kia has sold the Niro in Britain since the first hybrid arrived, and British buyers call the first generation the Mk1 and the all-new replacement the Mk2. The electric motor contributes 44 hp, and on the first generation the drive passes through a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. On a hybrid with a dual-clutch automatic, what counts is how the car responds at low speed and how it shifts.
Kia Niro remap: common questions
Does a Niro Hybrid take a tuning box, and which figure does it change?
The catalogue covers the petrol engine alone: with the GAN GA+, 105 hp and 147 Nm become 118 hp and 165 Nm. The GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power; that is the stated gain for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car. The catalogue does not say what this means for the 141 hp system output.
Do the first and second Niro share the same figures?
Yes: both generations use the 1.6 GDi petrol engine at 105 hp, and those are the hybrid's figures. The second 1.6H row in the catalogue, at 139 hp and 170 Nm, blends the system output with the electric motor's torque, so it is not an engine figure.
Should I declare the GAN box to my insurer?
Yes, declare it. British insurers treat extra power as a modification, so the safe course is to tell them before you fit the box. How they treat it varies from one insurer to another, so ask before you fit the box; the standard and tuned figures you will be asked for are in the table on this page.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
