Not sure which engine you have?
The badge alone is not enough: in this generation, the same engine designation came in different power outputs, each with its own calibration. Check the power output in your registration document and find the matching row.

Kia Stonic remap: what changes
The GAN box plugs in between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals, while a flash remap rewrites the ECU itself. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the Kia Stonic special
Kia Stonic remap: the 1.0 T-GDI at 100 hp or 120 hp
The Stonic 1.0 T-GDI badge covers two different engines, 120 hp and 100 hp, and both produce 172 Nm. The car launched in 2017 with the 120 hp engine; the 100 hp version was added in July 2019 and ran until 2020. For a Stonic tuning box, the output of your car decides, not the badge. Kia still sells the Stonic in Britain, where it is known as the Mk1, although the engine range has changed since launch.
The catalogue ends both versions in August 2020, when the facelift arrived. After the facelift the 120 hp version is a 48-volt mild hybrid. A mild-hybrid car is a separate case from a pre-2020 1.0 T-GDi, so check the build date before you pick a row. For DCT cars with that system, published tables show 200 Nm rather than 172 Nm.
The Stonic's other engines
The 1.6 CRDi at 110 hp and 260 Nm was an early-car engine, and Kia removed the diesel from the European range at the 2020 facelift. The later 1.6 CRDi, at 116 hp and 280 Nm, has no Stonic row of its own; the same engine is listed as the 1.6 CRDI of the Kia Sportage V. Nor does the 136 hp version, also at 280 Nm, appear under the Stonic; look for the 1.6 CRDi of the Hyundai i30 III. The petrol engines of 2017 to 2020 were the 1.2 at 84 hp and 122 Nm and the 1.4 at 100 hp and 133 Nm. The early 1.0 T-GDI is the stronger of the petrol options, while the naturally aspirated 1.4 is the slowest.
The facelift took the 1.4 out of the range, while the 1.2 and the 1.0 T-GDI carried on. Since the facelift the 1.2 makes 118 Nm, so the catalogue figures fit the earlier cars. The GAN GA+ takes the 100 hp 1.4 to 112 hp and 149 Nm. The 115 hp 1.0 T-GDI has no row in the catalogue.
Kia Stonic remap: common questions
Stonic 1.0 T-GDI remap: which version is mine?
Go by the output of your car, 100 hp or 120 hp, and make sure it was built before August 2020.
What does the GAN GT add to a Stonic 1.0 T-GDI?
The 100 hp version, at 172 Nm, reaches 129 hp and 222 Nm on the GAN GT according to the catalogue. The catalogue gives the 120 hp version 155 hp and 222 Nm. The GAN GT is rated at up to 30% more power on the T-GDI and the diesel. The other petrol engines take the GAN GA+, which is rated at up to 12%. Those are the stated gains for the engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
Why does one Stonic 1.0 T-GDI show 200 Nm and another 172 Nm?
The 200 Nm figure in published tables belongs to the DCT mild-hybrid versions, whereas the catalogue covers cars built up to August 2020 and uses 172 Nm.
Do I need to tell my insurer about a GAN tuning box?
Tell them. A tuning box raises the output, and in Britain that is a declarable modification like any other performance change. Policies differ, so a quick call to your insurer before fitting is the safe route; the figures they will ask for are the stock and GAN outputs listed here.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
