Not sure which engine you have?

The badge alone is not enough: in this generation, the same engine designation came in different power outputs, each with its own calibration. Check the power output in your registration document and find the matching row.

MG 3 remap: what changes

More power and torque without rewriting the ECU or swapping any parts. The GAN box only adjusts the engine sensor signals. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the MG 3 special

MG3 remap: the petrol car of 2013 to 2024

Britain has had the MG3 as a petrol car since 2013, while the rest of Europe only met it as a hybrid in 2024, and the catalogue covers the petrol MG3 up to 2024. Britain was the official European market, selling the car from September 2013 and assembling it at Longbridge until 2016. That original car stayed in the UK range until 2024, when the MG3 Hybrid+ replaced it. For an MG3 remap, the engine to know is the 1.5 VTi-Tech, with 106 hp and 135 Nm and a five-speed manual; the tuning box is matched to it. Peak torque, 135 Nm, arrives at 4500 rpm.

It is naturally aspirated and was the mainstream engine in the British MG3. The UK name for it is 1.5 VTi-TECH rather than 1.0i or 1.5i, and the trims ran 3Time, 3Form, 3Form Sport and 3Style at the 2013 launch, later Excite and Exclusive Nav. The 2016 car became the Euro 6 VTi-Tech with Start-Stop, and the second facelift of 2018 added a new interior and an 8-inch screen. The catalogue lists the rarer 1.3 VTi-Tech, at 93 hp and 118 Nm, as a 92 hp engine. All MG3 engines in the catalogue work with the GAN GA+.

Chinese-market engines in the list

The Chinese 1.3 of 2011 and 2012, rated at 88 hp and 117 Nm, is what the 87 hp row in the catalogue refers to. A Chinese 1.5 with 135 Nm sits behind the 109 hp row, while the British car makes 106 hp.

The 2024 MG3: Hybrid+ and the new petrol

Geneva saw the third-generation MG3 in February 2024, and sales across Europe began in spring 2024. The Hybrid+ combines a 102 hp 1.5 petrol with a 136 hp electric motor, giving 194 to 195 hp in total. That system output is not the petrol engine's own power; the engine alone is the 102 hp unit.

Germany got a 1.5 petrol with 116 hp and 148 Nm in March 2025. Neither car has a row in the catalogue.

FAQs

MG 3 remap: common questions

MG3 remap: how much more power does the 1.5 get?

The 106 hp 1.5 reaches 119 hp with the GAN GA+. Up to 12% more power is the rating of the GAN GA+, a stated gain for this engine type rather than a dyno reading of your car.

Where is the 93 hp MG3 1.3 VTi-Tech in the catalogue?

The catalogue lists it as a 1.0i with 92 hp and 118 Nm, but that row is the 1.3 VTi-Tech you are after.

Are the MG3 Hybrid+ and the 116 hp petrol in the catalogue?

Neither the Hybrid+ nor the 116 hp petrol of 2024 appears in the catalogue.

Should I declare the GAN box to my insurer?

Yes, declare it. British insurers treat extra power as a modification, so the safe course is to tell them before you fit the box. How they treat it varies from one insurer to another, so ask before you fit the box; the standard and tuned figures you will be asked for are in the table on this page.

Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?

Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
