What makes the Nissan Frontier special
Nissan Frontier remap: an import, with the Navara as the British pickup
Start with the market: Europe never had a Frontier, and Nissan sold the pickup of that class as the Navara. In Britain the Navara held that position, so any Frontier here is a private import. A Frontier tuning box is chosen from the American range: the petrol King Cab engines in 2.4, 2.5, 3.3 and 4.0 litres. The 4.0 V6 is offered at 261 hp and at 265 hp. The diesels of the European Navara (the 2.5 dCi at 174, 171 and 190 hp, the 3.0 dCi V6 at 231 hp) have their own page.
A Frontier has American petrol engines rather than the Navara diesels, so match it to the Frontier rows, not the Navara page. The D22 and D40 Frontiers are separate chassis families, so confirm which one you have before you choose a row. All seven catalogue versions take the GAN GA+. Frontier remap or tuning box: how do they differ?
A remap writes a new program into the memory of the control unit. The GAN module acts on the signals reaching the ECU, so the factory software, checksums and flash counter are not touched. Since it plugs into the existing connectors, it comes off in about a minute.
How much does the GAN GA+ add to a Frontier 4.0 V6?
In the catalogue the 265 hp King Cab goes to 286 hp with the GAN GA+. The GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power; these are stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your pickup.
Will my insurer need to know about the tuning box?
Tell them. A tuning box raises the output, and in Britain that is a declarable modification like any other performance change. Policies differ, so a quick call to your insurer before fitting is the safe route; the figures they will ask for are the stock and GAN outputs listed here.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
