Chiptuning Opel Insignia
Up to 30% more power for your Opel Insignia
Our catalog lists 1 generation and 20 engines for the Opel Insignia. For 18 turbo engines, the options are the GAN GT and GAN GTL tuning boxes: the GAN GT adds +33 to +55 hp (GAN GT from 329 EUR, GAN GTL from 219 EUR). For 2 naturally aspirated engines, the options are the GAN GA and GAN GA+: the GAN GA+ adds +14 to +17 hp (GAN GA+ from 189 EUR).
Which Opel Insignia do you have?
Start with the model year and chassis code. Then pick your engine by the power output shown in your vehicle documents.
Opel Insignia remap: what the GAN box does and doesn’t do
More power and torque without rewriting the ECU or replacing any parts. Unlike a flash remap, the tuning box leaves the ECU software alone and only adjusts the engine sensor signals.

Opel Insignia chip tuning: engines and generations
Vauxhall Insignia remap: mostly a diesel story
KBA figures for Germany between 2008 and 2016 show roughly 151,000 diesel Insignia A against 43,900 petrol ones. Diesel therefore makes up about 77 to 78% of the cars. For an Insignia tuning box, the 2.0 CDTi is where most of the work is. Output depends on the year: 110, 131 and 160 hp from 2008, then 163 hp from June 2013 and 170 hp from January 2015.
The GAN GT is matched to each of these outputs separately, so pick your row by the hp figure. The 2.0 BiTurbo CDTi with 194 hp takes the GAN GT as well, as does the 1.6 CDTi with 136 hp, available from July 2015. From June 2013 there were also a 120 hp 2.0 CDTi and, as the ecoFLEX, a 140 hp one. On a 2.0 CDTi that mostly does short urban trips, particulate filter regeneration is the usual talking point, so the service history matters before any box goes on.
Petrol engines and the VXR
Petrol turbos start with the 1.4 Turbo at 140 hp, then come the 1.6 Turbo at 179 hp and the 1.6 SIDI Turbo at 170 hp. The 2.0 Turbo and the 260 hp 2.8 V6 Turbo are turbocharged petrols too. All of them take the GAN GT, and so does the VXR, sold in Europe as the OPC, with its 2.8 V6 Turbo.
The petrols without a turbo, the 1.6 with 115 hp and the 1.8 with 140 hp, are matched to the GAN GA+. The 2.0 Turbo is rated at 250 hp, so match it by that figure in the table; the earlier 220 hp version has no row in the catalogue yet.
Bodies, years and the British names
The Insignia A was launched in July 2008 and reached showrooms in November 2008 as a saloon and a five-door hatchback. The Sports Tourer estate arrived in March 2009; the OPC followed in summer 2009 and the raised Country Tourer in late 2013. June 2013 brought the facelift, and the last car left the line in April 2017.
Its factory body code is G09, and it sits on the GM Epsilon 2 platform. Over here it is simply the Vauxhall Insignia. British owners call the first generation the Insignia Mk1 or Insignia A, and the performance version is the VXR rather than the OPC.
Opel Insignia remapping: questions
Insignia 2.0 CDTi 160 hp remap: what does the GAN GT add?
The catalogue lists the A20DTH at 160 hp and 350 Nm, and with the GAN GT it reaches 206 hp and 445 Nm. For turbo engines the GAN GT is good for up to 30% more power. Those are stated gains for the engine type, not a measurement from your own car.
Which 2.0 CDTi is mine: 110, 131, 160 or 170 hp?
Go by the hp figure: the catalogue covers the 110, 131, 160, 163 and 170 hp versions. The 163 hp version, built between June 2013 and December 2014, falls between the 160 and 170 hp cars. For the 170 hp version, with 400 Nm, the catalogue shows a gain of 48 hp. Because the 170 hp car already makes 400 Nm, check torque delivery, the clutch and the dual-mass flywheel before you think about adding more.
Insignia VXR remap: is the 2.8 V6 Turbo with 325 hp covered?
Yes. The 325 hp, 435 Nm VXR (OPC in Europe) works with the GAN GT, and the catalogue shows a gain of 55 hp. In Britain this car is the Insignia VXR. The Unlimited version from April 2011 has no speed limiter and reaches 270 km/h.
Insignia diesel: tuning box or flash remap, and what stays untouched?
A flash remap rewrites the factory software in the engine control unit, and a tuning box is a different method. The GAN box sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals, so the factory software, checksums and flash counter stay untouched. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.
Should I declare the GAN box to my insurer?
Yes. In the UK a power increase counts as a modification, and insurers expect to be told about it before you drive with the box fitted. Each insurer handles it differently, so check with yours first and quote the before-and-after output from the table above.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
