Peugeot 2008 remap: what changes

The GAN box plugs in between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals, while a flash remap rewrites the ECU itself. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the Peugeot 2008 special

Peugeot 2008 remap: mostly first-generation engines

A 2008 from 2020 or 2021 is usually the second generation, while most of the engines in the catalogue belong to the first. British guides date the first generation 2013 to 2019 and the second from 2019 onwards, which they also call the Mk2; trims run Active, Allure and GT. The 208 platform underpinned the first 2008, built from 2013 to 2019, and the second generation was unveiled on 19 June 2019. In Germany it arrived in late November 2019, and the official launch followed on 25 January 2020.

The 2008 has been part of the British range since 2013 and still is, so either generation is easy to find. Petrol power comes from three-cylinder PureTech turbos, and the diesel is the 1.5 BlueHDi with SCR and AdBlue. The electric e-2008 has no catalogue row. Which box suits a 2008 therefore depends on the generation, so check your car's year first.

First-generation engines

Built from March 2015 to July 2018, the 1.2 PureTech 110 is a turbo with 205 Nm and takes the GAN GT. From the 2016 facelift the first 2008 also came with the 1.2 PureTech 130, 230 Nm, in the top trim. The 1.6 VTi 120, with 160 Nm, was built from March 2013 to March 2015 and takes the GAN GA+. Diesels start with the 1.4 HDi (68 hp, 160 Nm) and the 1.6 e-HDi (92 hp and 230 Nm, or 115 hp and 270 Nm).

The 1.6 BlueHDi made 99 to 100 hp and 254 Nm from March 2015 to April 2018, and there is also a 120 hp version with 300 Nm. UK specifications list the same engines, the 1.2 PureTech at 110 hp and 130 hp and the 1.6 BlueHDi at 99 hp and 254 Nm, so find your engine by its hp figure in the table. All the HDi, e-HDi and BlueHDi diesels take the GAN GT. The 2016 facelift gave the car its upright grille with the lion badge.

FAQs

Peugeot 2008 remap: common questions

Peugeot 2008 1.2 PureTech remap: what does the 110 hp car gain?

With the GAN GT a 2008 with the 110 hp engine ends up at 143 hp and 267 Nm. Up to 30% more power is the rating of the GAN GT line; that is a stated gain for this engine type, not a dyno reading from your own car. On the first-generation 1.2 PureTech the belt runs in oil, so its condition and the specified oil are worth checking before you add power.

Which 2008 1.6 BlueHDi is mine, the 100 hp or the 120 hp?

Pick the 100 hp row if your car makes 99 to 100 hp with 254 Nm, and the 120 hp row if it has 300 Nm.

Does the catalogue cover a 2008 built in 2020 or 2021?

The listed engines are first-generation ones, with one exception: the 1.2 PureTech 130, which both generations share. There is no separate row for the 1.2 PureTech 100 under the 2008; the same engine is listed as the 1.2 PureTech 100 of the Peugeot 208. The 1.5 BlueHDi 100 follows the same pattern, appearing as the 1.5 BlueHDi 100 of the Peugeot 308. The more powerful diesel, the 1.5 BlueHDi 130, is found under the Peugeot 3008 as the 1.5 BlueHDi 130. The 1.2 PureTech 155 and the 2024 mild hybrids have no catalogue row.

Peugeot 2008: GAN tuning box or flash remap?

Unlike a flash remap, which replaces the factory software, a tuning box leaves the software in the engine control unit untouched. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and you can remove the box at any time.

Do I need to tell my insurer about a GAN tuning box?

Yes, declare it. British insurers treat extra power as a modification, so the safe course is to tell them before you fit the box. How they treat it varies from one insurer to another, so ask before you fit the box; the standard and tuned figures you will be asked for are in the table on this page.

Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?

Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
