Renault Captur remap: what changes
The GAN box plugs in between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals, while a flash remap rewrites the ECU itself. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the Renault Captur special
Renault Captur remap: 0.9 TCe, TCe 120 and TCe 150 are three separate engines
The 0.9 TCe is the three-cylinder engine of 898 cc and 90 hp. Before choosing a tuning box for the Captur, you need to tell the three petrol engines of the first-generation car apart. The TCe 120 is a 1.2-litre four-cylinder (H5Ft); the TCe 150 is a 1.3-litre unit (H5Ht) producing 150 hp from 2018. The catalogue lists the 1.2 TCe as the 1.2T eTHP, and it takes the GAN GT. UK cars carry the TCe 120 badge, so do not search the catalogue for that name; look for the 1.2T eTHP row, which is listed at 116 hp.
A 1.3-litre TCe 130 joined the line-up in 2018-2019. Diesel buyers had the 1.5 dCi 90 (90 hp, 220 Nm) and, from 2015, the dCi 110 (110 hp, 260 Nm). The first-generation car (J87) arrived in 2013, was facelifted in 2017 and stayed in production until 2019. UK references separate the first-generation Captur from the All-New Captur of 2020; trims such as Dynamique and Iconic describe equipment, not the engine.
The second-generation Captur from 2019
The second-generation Captur came in 2019, with a facelift in 2024. Petrol versions run from the 1.0 TCe, with 91 hp or 100 hp, up to the 1.3 TCe with as much as 160 hp. Britain offered the 1.3 TCe as a 130 hp and a 155 hp version; the 130 hp one has no row in the catalogue yet. The 1.3 TCe 155 of 2020-2022 develops 270 Nm and is matched to the GAN GT in the catalogue. A 1.5 Blue dCi with 115 hp is the second-generation diesel, first offered in 2020.
That 1.5 Blue dCi 115 has no row of its own under the Captur: the same engine is listed as the dCi 115 of the Renault Mégane IV. The 1.5 dCi 95 offered alongside it has no row in the catalogue either. The 1.0 TCe, the mild hybrids and the E-Tech hybrids have no catalogue rows. All the Captur TCe and dCi rows in the catalogue take the GAN GT.
Renault Captur remap: common questions
Renault Captur chip tuning: is the 0.9 TCe covered?
There is no 0.9 TCe row under the Captur: the same engine is listed as the 0.9T of the Smart ForFour. The 0.9 TCe has three cylinders and the TCe 120 has four, so the figures given for the 1.2 TCe do not apply to it.
What does the GAN GT do for a Captur 1.5 dCi 90 or dCi 110?
The dCi 90 (220 Nm) goes to 117 hp and 280 Nm; the dCi 110 (260 Nm) goes to 143 hp and 332 Nm. For turbo diesels the GAN GT range is rated at up to 30% more power. Treat the gains above as stated figures for the engine type, not a measurement from your own car.
Captur dCi remap or tuning box: what is the difference?
The GAN box is fitted between the engine sensors and the ECU, which then receives adjusted signals. A remap rewrites the software; the box leaves the factory software, the checksums and the flash counter untouched. Nothing is written to the ECU, so when the box comes off it leaves no electronic or mechanical traces.
Should I declare the GAN box to my insurer?
Yes. In the UK a power increase counts as a modification, and insurers expect to be told about it before you drive with the box fitted. Each insurer handles it differently, so check with yours first and quote the before-and-after output from the table above.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
