Toyota Corolla Cross remap: what changes
More power and torque without rewriting the ECU or swapping any parts. The GAN box only adjusts the engine sensor signals. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the Toyota Corolla Cross special
Corolla Cross remap: engine power or system power?
Toyota quotes 140 hp for the Corolla Cross Hybrid, so why does the catalogue show only 98 hp? The 98 hp and 142 Nm belong to the 1.8-litre 2ZR-FXE petrol engine, while 140 hp is the output of the whole hybrid system. It is the same story with the 2.0 Hybrid: the petrol engine gives 152 hp and 190 Nm, and the system 197 hp at launch.
A tuning box for the Corolla Cross acts on the petrol engine, so the catalogue gives that engine's figures without the electric motor. A Corolla Cross hybrid remap needs your system figure for one job only: finding the right version. Both engines suit the GAN GA+.
The range in Europe
The Corolla Cross reaches Europe solely as a hybrid; it is built in Japan and arrived in September 2022. The 2.0 Hybrid arrived first, with front-wheel drive or AWD-i, which adds a rear-axle electric motor. The base 1.8 Hybrid is front-wheel drive with a 95 hp, 163 Nm electric motor and an e-CVT. In May 2025 a facelift brought the High and GR Sport trims, with both hybrid systems carried over.
For a European Corolla Cross, tuning comes down to two engines, the 1.8 Hybrid at 98 hp and the 2.0 Hybrid at 152 hp; the catalogue's petrol-only versions are not sold in Europe. Quote both figures when you describe the car: 98 hp and 140 hp for the 1.8 Hybrid, 152 hp and 197 hp for the 2.0 Hybrid at launch. Toyota GB has not sold the Corolla Cross, so one in Britain is an import that keeps its overseas trim names and specification. The droning engine note of the 2.0 Hybrid under hard acceleration is a drivability trait of its CVT-style drivetrain, not a sign of hidden output.
Toyota Corolla Cross remap: common questions
Does a tuning box go by 98 hp or 140 hp?
The box acts on the petrol engine, so the catalogue starts from 98 hp and 142 Nm on the 1.8 Hybrid. The 140 hp is the engine and electric motor combined. Fitted with the GAN GA+, the petrol engine is listed at 110 hp and 159 Nm. GAN rates the GA+ at up to 12% more power, a stated gain for this engine type and not a dyno reading of your car.
Which entry fits the 2.0 Hybrid 197 and the AWD-i car?
The 2.0 Hybrid's 197 hp is a system figure from launch; the entry to follow is the petrol engine's 152 hp. In the AWD-i car the petrol engine is unchanged, again 152 hp.
What about servicing and reliability once a tuning box is fitted?
Everything plugs into the existing connectors, and the box comes off in about a minute without anything being written to the ECU. Since the ECU software is never changed, your manufacturer's warranty is preserved, and you can remove the module at any time. On economy, GAN rates the GA+ at up to 15% lower fuel consumption with an economical driving style.
Will my insurer need to know about the tuning box?
Yes, declare it. British insurers treat extra power as a modification, so the safe course is to tell them before you fit the box. How they treat it varies from one insurer to another, so ask before you fit the box; the standard and tuned figures you will be asked for are in the table on this page.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
