Toyota Tacoma remap: an American pickup that Toyota GB never sold

A Toyota Tacoma in Britain is an import: the pickup is built for North America and is not sold officially in Europe, where the Hilux takes its place. The catalogue therefore lists the American versions, with power quoted in SAE hp. First generation (N100, 1995–2004): the 2.4 (2RZ-FE) at 142 hp, the 2.7 (3RZ-FE) at 150 hp and the 3.4 V6 (5VZ-FE) at 190 hp.

Second generation (N200, 2005–2015): the 2.7 (2TR-FE) at 159 hp and the 4.0 V6 (1GR-FE) at 236 hp. From 2015 to 2023 the 2.7 stayed at 159 hp and a 3.5 V6 (2GR-FKS) at 278 hp was added; since 2023 the line-up is a 2.4 turbo and a hybrid. Choosing the right Tacoma version

The GAN GA+ is a plug-in remap box rather than a programmer: nothing is written to the ECU. Regular Cab, Access Cab and Double Cab describe the body, while PreRunner and X-Runner are American trim names rather than anything Toyota GB sold, so the engine decides. The 159 hp car is the 2.7 (2TR-FE); with the GAN GA+ it goes from 159 hp to 178 hp.

The 236 hp 4.0 V6 (1GR-FE) takes the GAN GA+ as well. The latest generation's 2.4 turbo and hybrid have no row in the catalogue.

Is the GAN box a programmer or a plug-in remap for the Tacoma?
