Each engine has its own tuning box: GAN GT / GTL or GAN GA / GA+. Prices are per box and include the current discount.
Not sure which engine you have?
The badge alone is not enough: in this generation, the same engine designation came in different power outputs, each with its own calibration. Check the power output in your registration document and find the matching row.

Volvo XC70 remap: what changes
The GAN box plugs in between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals, while a flash remap rewrites the ECU itself. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the Volvo XC70 special
Volvo XC70 D5 remap: the engine and its year
You can date an XC70 D5 by its output, which went 163 hp (July 2002), 185 hp (December 2005), 205 hp (April 2009) and 215 hp (May 2011). Start with the year of your car: an XC70 tuning box has to match the D5 of that year. Until November 2005 the D5, a turbocharged five-cylinder 2.4 diesel, made 163 hp and 340 Nm. A particulate filter arrived with the 185 hp, 400 Nm version. The 205 hp and 215 hp versions share 420 Nm, while the 215 hp car with the automatic has 440 Nm from June 2011.
From 2000 the first XC70 was the V70 XC, and the second generation ran from 2007 until May 2016. The 2.4D DRIVe, with 175 hp and 420 Nm, sat alongside the D5 in the second generation between April 2009 and April 2010. The front-wheel-drive 2.0 D3, 163 hp and 400 Nm, followed from April 2010 to June 2013. Volvo UK officially sold the second-generation XC70 from 2007; in Britain it is badged XC70, mostly in SE and SE Lux trims, and described by model year rather than a Mk number.
The petrol XC70s and the rest
Petrol XC70s used the 2.4T (200 hp, 285 Nm) up to July 2002 and the 2.5T (210 hp, 320 Nm) up to June 2007. From August 2007 to January 2008 the 3.2 six-cylinder followed, with 238 hp and 320 Nm. The GAN GT suits the 2.5T; the 2.4T and the 3.2 take the GAN GA+.
The all-wheel-drive D3 and D4, 163 and 181 hp with 420 Nm, and the 245 hp Drive-E T5 have no separate XC70 entries: the same engines appear as the 2.4 D3 AWD, the 2.4 D4 AWD and the 2.0 T5 of 245 hp in the Volvo XC60. No XC70 entry exists for the 304 hp, 440 Nm T6; the same engine sits under the 3.0i of the Volvo S80. The catalogue also lacks the 285 hp T6 and the front-wheel-drive D4 with 181 hp and 400 Nm.
Volvo XC70 remap: common questions
What will a 215 hp XC70 D5 gain?
In the catalogue the 215 hp D5 is listed at 215 hp and 420 Nm, and with the GAN GT it reaches 256 hp and 528 Nm. GAN rates the GT line at up to 30% more power, and the GA+ for the 2.4T and the 3.2 at up to 12%. Take those as stated gains for the engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
Which entry matches an XC70 2.0 D3 with 163 hp?
Pick the 2.0 D3, 163 hp and 400 Nm, the front-wheel-drive diesel built from April 2010 to June 2013.
XC70 D5: tuning box or ECU remap?
Unlike an ECU remap, a tuning box sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals. With the module, the factory software, checksums and flash counter stay untouched.
Which GAN device suits the XC70 2.5T, 210 hp, and the 2.4T, 200 hp?
The 2.5T takes the GAN GT and is shown in the catalogue at 209 hp against the factory 210 hp and 320 Nm, while the 2.4T, 200 hp and 285 Nm, uses the GAN GA+.
Will my insurer need to know about the tuning box?
Tell them. A tuning box raises the output, and in Britain that is a declarable modification like any other performance change. Policies differ, so a quick call to your insurer before fitting is the safe route; the figures they will ask for are the stock and GAN outputs listed here.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
