Each engine has its own tuning box: GAN GT / GTL or GAN GA / GA+. Prices are per box and include the current discount.
Not sure which engine you have?
The badge alone is not enough: in this generation, the same engine designation came in different power outputs, each with its own calibration. Check the power output in your registration document and find the matching row.

Volkswagen Beetle remap: what changes
The GAN box plugs in between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals, while a flash remap rewrites the ECU itself. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

2.0 TSI "GSR" 211 hp → 275 hp. The other engines gain at least +9 hp; check the table for each one.
- +89 Nmfor diesels
Diesels gain mostly torque: +75 to +89 Nm, which helps with overtaking and towing.

What makes the Volkswagen Beetle special
VW Beetle remap: which Beetle do you mean?
Two cars share the name: the New Beetle (9C), 1998 to 2010, and the Beetle A5, 2011 to 2019. The air-cooled classic, the VW bug, has no place in the catalogue. The catalogue puts both newer cars on one Beetle page, so the engine is what separates them. A tuning box exists for the engines of both cars, and with the GAN GT the 2.0 TSI of 220 hp reaches 264 hp and 435 Nm.
Those are stated gains for the engine type, not a dyno reading of your car. In Britain the 2011 to 2019 car is simply the Beetle, called the Mk2 Beetle by used-car guides, in Design, Sport, R-Line and Dune trims, plus the limited-run GSR. It is no longer made, so every British Beetle is a used car.
The Beetle A5's engines from 2011
The Beetle A5 was unveiled in April 2011 and built until July 2019, with European sales running to March 2018. The 2.0 TSI gave 200 hp until May 2013, 210 hp until November 2014 and 220 hp after that, and the 2013 GSR special edition is a 210 hp car. The 1.2 TSI makes 105 hp and 175 Nm. From October 2014 the 1.4 TSI came with 150 hp and 250 Nm.
The diesels are the 1.6 TDI at 105 hp, a 110 hp diesel from November 2014, and the 2.0 TDI at 140 hp, later 150 hp. A Beetle diesel therefore starts with the build date. UK reviews treat the turbocharged 1.2 TSI, 175 Nm, as the entry petrol, so the naturally aspirated rows under the New Beetle do not represent a British car from 2011 on. Between the diesels, torque is the difference: 250 Nm for the 1.6 TDI against 320 Nm for the earlier 2.0 TDI of 140 hp.
The New Beetle's petrol engines
The New Beetle is built on the Golf IV platform, and the engines listed for it on this page are petrol units. The 1.4 gives 75 hp, the 1.6 102 hp, the 2.0 116 hp and the 2.3 V5 170 hp. In the catalogue the 2.0 shows as 115 hp.
The New Beetle's 1.8T with 150 hp has no row of its own: the same engine is the 1.8T of the VW Golf IV. The 1.9 TDI of the New Beetle, 101 or 105 hp, is listed on the VW New Beetle (9C) page.
Volkswagen Beetle remap: common questions
How do I tell a Beetle A5 2.0 TSI of 200, 210 or 220 hp from the others?
The year decides it: 200 hp from June 2011, 210 hp from May 2013 and 220 hp from November 2014. All three 2.0 TSI versions suit the GAN GT, rated at up to 30% more power on turbo engines.
Beetle 2.0 TDI remap: 140 or 150 hp, and the 1.6 TDI?
From February 2012 to October 2014 the 2.0 TDI made 140 hp, then 150 hp; the 1.6 TDI made 105 hp from August 2011 to October 2014. Each of these engines suits the GAN GT.
What does the GAN GA+ offer a New Beetle 1.4, 1.6, 2.0 or 2.3 V5?
All four take the GAN GA+, rated at up to 12% more power. It is also rated at up to 15% lower fuel consumption with an economical driving style.
Tuning box or flash remap for a Beetle?
Unlike a flash remap, which rewrites the factory software, a tuning box sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved because the ECU software is never changed and you can remove the module at any time. It comes off in about a minute, and no electronic or mechanical traces remain.
Do I need to tell my insurer about a GAN tuning box?
Yes, declare it. British insurers treat extra power as a modification, so the safe course is to tell them before you fit the box. How they treat it varies from one insurer to another, so ask before you fit the box; the standard and tuned figures you will be asked for are in the table on this page.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
