Not sure which engine you have?
The badge alone is not enough: in this generation, the same engine designation came in different power outputs, each with its own calibration. Check the power output in your registration document and find the matching row.

Volkswagen Up remap: what changes
More power and torque without rewriting the ECU or swapping any parts. The GAN box only adjusts the engine sensor signals. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the Volkswagen Up special
VW up remap: one three-cylinder engine for three cars
Under the skin the VW up is the SEAT Mii and the Škoda Citigo: all three share one body and one engine. British brochures list the up as a three-door and a five-door car, in take up, move up, high up, up beats, R-Line and GTI trims, plus the separate electric e-up. All the petrol engines sold in the up in Europe are three-cylinder 1.0-litre units of the EA211 family. For a VW up 1.0 remap by tuning box, the catalogue offers the 1.0 MPI at 60 or 75 hp. A 65 hp 1.0 MPI followed in August 2020. The 90 hp 1.0 TSI ran from 2016 to 2019, and the 68 hp bi-fuel EcoFuel runs on CNG and petrol. Production of the 60 hp engine lasted from October 2011 to August 2020, and of the 75 hp engine from October 2011 to July 2019.
The 68 hp EcoFuel was built from November 2012 to October 2023. Trims run from take up through move up and high up, and since 2013 there has also been cross up, a five-door only. You could have a five-speed manual or, from June 2012, the automated ASG, although the take up does not offer it. Bratislava began building the car in December 2011, and the 2016 facelift added LED daytime running lights and the turbocharged engine. Europe could buy the petrol up until 2023. The 115 hp up GTI was unveiled at the Wörthersee in May 2017 and sold from January 2018 to October 2023.
What the catalogue covers
In the catalogue the 1.0 MPI at 60 and 75 hp and the 68 hp EcoFuel all go with the GAN GA+. British brochures rate both MPI engines at 95 Nm, so a 60 hp and a 75 hp car share the same standard torque. The 90 hp 1.0 TSI and the electric e-up are not in the catalogue.
Volkswagen Up remap: common questions
What does the GAN GA+ add to the 1.0 MPI with 75 hp?
The 1.0 MPI starts at 75 hp and 95 Nm and reaches 84 hp and 106 Nm with the GAN GA+. The GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power; these are stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
Remap or tuning box on a 1.0 MPI up: what to expect?
As on any GAN fit, the box sits between the engine sensors and the ECU, leaving the factory software, checksums and flash counter alone. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can come off at any time.
Up GTI remap: is the GTI covered?
The 1.0 TSI GTI, at 115 hp and 200 Nm, has no row under the up in the catalogue; the same engine is listed as the 1.0 TSI of the VW Golf VII. The GTI is a turbocharged petrol, quite separate from the naturally aspirated 60 and 75 hp MPI engines.
Will my insurer need to know about the tuning box?
Yes. In the UK a power increase counts as a modification, and insurers expect to be told about it before you drive with the box fitted. Each insurer handles it differently, so check with yours first and quote the before-and-after output from the table above.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
