Audi A4 B8 remap: what changes
The GAN box plugs in between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals, while a flash remap rewrites the ECU itself. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the Audi A4 B8 special
Audi A4 B8 remap: check the oil consumption first, then the engine
If your Audi A4 B8 (Typ 8K) has the 1.8 TFSI or 2.0 TFSI petrol engine and was built between 2008 and mid-2011, oil consumption is the first thing to check. The early EA888 was fitted with oil control rings that proved too narrow, so consumption can climb somewhere between 40,000 and 70,000 km, although Audi calls the affected cars isolated cases. Measure how much oil the engine uses before you fit a tuning box.
The Avant is treated exactly like the saloon, since the engine counts and the body does not. In Britain the range was sold as the A4 Saloon, the A4 Avant and the A4 allroad quattro, in SE, SE Technik, S line and Black Edition trims.
What the GAN GT gives each A4 B8 engine
The 2.0 TDI was built in several outputs, and the GAN GT takes the 150 hp version to 188 hp and the 177 hp version to 210 hp. From March 2014 there is also a 190 hp version, which reaches 225 hp. If your 2.0 TDI mostly does short journeys, think about the EGR valve and the DPF first, because a blockage there brings warning lights, reduced power and limp mode.
On the petrol side, the 1.8 TFSI goes from 160 hp to 206 hp, and the 170 hp version reaches 218 hp. The 3.0 TDI rises from 245 hp to 286 hp, and the supercharged 3.0 TFSI from 272 hp to 343 hp. The 3.2 FSI is a naturally aspirated V6 with 265 hp; it takes the GAN GA+, rated at up to 12% more power, and reaches 286 hp.

Will a tuning box make a B8 2.0 TFSI use more oil?
Some of the affected cars use more than 1 litre of oil per 1,000 km. Extra power puts more load on the engine, so one that already burns oil should be checked before you add any. The timing chain tensioner on the first-generation EA888 is another point to check. Timing-chain noise and carbon build-up on the intake valves are also worth checking on early petrol engines, by engine code and production date.
Audi A4 2.0 TDI remap: which version is yours?
Match the engine code: CAGA or CJCA means the 143 hp version, CJCD, CMFB or CSUA the 150 hp, CGLC the 177 hp and CNHA the 190 hp. The 120 hp and 170 hp diesels were sold in Britain as well, and the table has a row for each hp figure.
A4 B8: tuning box or flash remap?
A flash remap rewrites the ECU software, whereas the GAN tuning box only adjusts the sensor signals, so the factory software, checksums and flash counter stay untouched. Because the ECU software is never changed and the module can be removed at any time, your manufacturer's warranty is preserved. All figures on this page are stated gains for the engine types, not a dyno reading from your own A4.
Should I declare the GAN box to my insurer?
Yes, declare it. British insurers treat extra power as a modification, so the safe course is to tell them before you fit the box. How they treat it varies from one insurer to another, so ask before you fit the box; the standard and tuned figures you will be asked for are in the table on this page.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
