Cupra Ateca remap: what changes
The GAN box plugs in between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals, while a flash remap rewrites the ECU itself. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the Cupra Ateca special
Cupra Ateca remap: one engine, listed twice
Up to 2023 the Cupra Ateca has just one engine to consider: the 2.0 TSI EA888 with 300 hp and 400 Nm, four-wheel drive and a seven-speed DSG. In Britain it was sold simply as the Cupra Ateca, with no generation number, until it was withdrawn from the UK market in 2026; from the 2020 facelift the 300 hp car came in VZ1, VZ2 and VZ3 trims. The Ateca badge alone does not identify the 300 hp car, because lower-output petrol versions sat alongside it in the later UK range. The catalogue lists it twice, for cars built before and after November 2020, and both entries give the same GAN GT figures. The engine code is DNUE up to the 2020 facelift and DNFC from then on.
More torque goes through the DSG and 4Drive, so both deserve a service check before you add power. Some cars from 2021 and 2022 were recalled because a loose cover on top of the engine could touch the hot turbocharger (campaign 10H7). The 2.0 TSI of 190 hp, added in 2023, has no separate Cupra Ateca row; look for the same engine as the 2.0 TFSI of the SEAT Ateca. The 1.5 TSI of 150 hp is covered under another model too, as the 1.5 TSI of the VW T-Roc.
Cupra Ateca remap: common questions
Cupra Ateca 2.0 TSI 300 remap: what does the GAN GT add?
Either entry takes the car from 300 hp and 400 Nm to 351 hp and 468 Nm with the GAN GT. These are catalogue gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your own car. On turbo engines like this one the GAN GT is rated at up to 30% more power.
Cupra Ateca: flash remap or tuning box, and what stays untouched?
A flash remap rewrites the factory software, whereas the GAN box is a separate plug-in unit that sits between the engine sensors and the ECU. The factory software stays as it is, and when the box is removed it leaves no electronic or mechanical traces.
Should I declare the GAN box to my insurer?
Yes. In the UK a power increase counts as a modification, and insurers expect to be told about it before you drive with the box fitted. Each insurer handles it differently, so check with yours first and quote the before-and-after output from the table above.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
