What makes the Hyundai ix35 special
Hyundai ix35 remap: pull on the motorway
Is the ix35 strong enough for the motorway? The German club ADAC rates the 1.7 CRDi with 116 hp as fine for daily use but not quite at home at motorway speeds, and says the petrol versions only partly suit a full load or a trailer. UK reviews praise the economy of the 1.7 CRDi, while its power is modest. Hyundai sold the ix35 in Britain from 2010 to 2015, and the Tucson name returned for its successor. An ix35 remap with a tuning box splits by fuel: the GAN GT for the diesels, the GAN GA+ for the petrol engines.
On the GAN GT the 1.7 CRDi gains 35 hp and 77 Nm, the 2.0 CRDi with 136 hp gains 40 hp and 89 Nm, and the 2.0 CRDi with 184 hp gains 52 hp and 102 Nm. Does a petrol ix35 benefit from a tuning box?
On the petrol side the ix35 comes with the 1.6 GDI at 135 hp and the 2.0 at 163 hp. The 1.6 GDI has no turbo, so it takes the GAN GA+, rated at up to 12% more power; expect a smaller gain than on a diesel.
What can the GAN GT add to an ix35 2.0 CRDi 184?
The engine leaves the factory with 184 hp and 383 Nm and reaches 236 hp and 485 Nm on the GAN GT. A turbodiesel like this is GAN GT territory, rated at up to 30% more power; read the figures as the stated gain for the engine type, not a dyno result from your car. As on any diesel, the DPF on an ix35 CRDi can clog if the car mainly does short urban journeys, and regular longer runs help.
Will my insurer need to know about the tuning box?

Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
