Each engine has its own tuning box: GAN GT / GTL or GAN GA / GA+. Prices are per box and include the current discount.
Not sure which engine you have?
The badge alone is not enough: in this generation, the same engine designation came in different power outputs, each with its own calibration. Check the power output in your registration document and find the matching row.

Toyota Crown remap: what changes
The GAN box plugs in between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals, while a flash remap rewrites the ECU itself. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the Toyota Crown special
Toyota Crown remap: a Japanese car with a short European history
A Danish importer brought the first Crowns to Europe in 1963, and the S120 of 1983 to 1987 was the last generation commonly sold there. The Crowns in the GAN catalogue all belong to later generations, S130 to S220, made for Japan and China. A tuning box for the Crown therefore begins with the series and the engine code rather than the badge on the boot. Athletes are the sporty Crowns, Royals the comfortable ones, and the Majesta is a separate, longer car; a Crown Athlete and a Crown Majesta therefore lead to different engines.
The generation codes S180, S200, S210 and S220 then narrow it down. Toyota GB has not sold the Crown since 1984, so the ones on British roads today are Japanese imports, mostly S180, S200 and S210. Those imports mostly use 2.5, 3.0 and 3.5-litre petrol engines, and full-hybrid versions were sold in Japan from 2008.
The engines in the catalogue
The Crown Athlete has used the 3.5-litre 2GR-FSE, 315 hp, since 2005. Below that come the 3.0-litre 3GR-FSE with 256 hp and the 2.5-litre 4GR-FSE, 215 hp in the S180 but 203 hp in the S200 and S210. Turbocharged, the 2.0 S-T carries the 8AR-FTS engine: 235 hp and 350 Nm, fitted from 2015 to the S210 Athlete and also to the S220 RS. That turbo engine takes the GAN GT; the other fifteen engines in the catalogue take the GAN GA+.
Hybrids and the Majesta
The figures quoted for the 2.5 hybrid are for the petrol engine alone: 178 hp from the 2AR-FSE in the S210 and 184 hp from the A25A-FXS in the S220, with a higher system total. For the S220's 3.5 hybrid, the 8GR-FXS, the catalogue gives 360 hp of system output. Majesta means V8: the 4.3-litre 3UZ-FE gives 280 hp and the 4.6-litre 1UR-FSE 347 hp, and the catalogue adds a Majesta 4.0 of 280 hp and 402 Nm.
Toyota Crown remap: common questions
How do I tell which engine my Crown Athlete, Royal or Majesta has?
The series name does not give you the engine, so start with the engine code and the generation. Athletes carry a V6 of 2.5, 3.0 or 3.5 litres, with a 2.5 hybrid and the 2.0 turbo coming later. The S180 Majesta has a 4.3-litre V8. A British import is usually described by its Japanese generation code rather than a model year, so that code is the place to begin.
What does the GAN GT do for the Crown 2.0 S-T?
The engine is listed at 235 hp and 350 Nm as standard, and at 275 hp and 410 Nm with the GAN GT. On a turbo petrol, GAN rates the GT at up to 30% more power. Take that as a stated gain for the engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
What does the GAN GA+ do for the V6 engines?
For the 2.5 to 3.5-litre petrol V6 engines the GAN GA+ is the match, rated at up to 12% more power. The 3.5 V6, 315 hp and 377 Nm standard, reaches 340 hp and 407 Nm with it, and the 3.5 hybrid, listed with a system figure, uses the GA+ as well. Since the ECU software is never changed, your manufacturer's warranty is preserved, and the module can be removed at any time.
Did Germany ever get the Toyota Crown?
Yes: the S110 arrived in 1980 and the S120 followed, the last Crown commonly sold in Europe. The S110 came with a 2.8-litre petrol of 145 hp or a 2.2-litre diesel of 66 hp. Power rose to 170 hp in the S120, which stayed with the 2.8-litre engine. Later Crowns reached Germany only as grey imports, usually with right-hand drive.
Do I need to tell my insurer about a GAN tuning box?
Yes. In the UK a power increase counts as a modification, and insurers expect to be told about it before you drive with the box fitted. Each insurer handles it differently, so check with yours first and quote the before-and-after output from the table above.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
