Each engine has its own tuning box: GAN GT / GTL or GAN GA / GA+. Prices are per box and include the current discount.
Not sure which engine you have?
The badge alone is not enough: in this generation, the same engine designation came in different power outputs, each with its own calibration. Check the power output in your registration document and find the matching row.

BMW 5 Series E60 remap: what changes
The GAN box plugs in between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals, while a flash remap rewrites the ECU itself. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the BMW 5 Series E60 special
BMW E60 remap: the badge misleads twice
The E60 badge can mislead in two ways, which is why the engine underneath, not the number on the boot, decides the tuning box; this page covers engine power only, not styling parts. In Britain the saloon is the E60 and the Touring the E61, sold under badges from the 520i and 523i up to the 550i and from the 520d to the 535d. A 520i with 170 hp could be either engine: the 2.2-litre six-cylinder M54B22 from 2003 to 2005, or, from September 2007, the 2.0-litre four-cylinder N43B20 with direct injection. The 218 hp 525i had the 2.5-litre N52 from July 2005, then the 3.0-litre N53 after the facelift of March 2007.
Up to January 2007 the 525d used a 2.5-litre M57 with 177 hp, and after that a 3.0-litre M57 with 197 hp. The 530d started with 218 hp, moved to 231 hp, and made 235 hp after the facelift. The twin-turbo 535d had 272 hp until the facelift and 286 hp from then on.
Which GAN box suits which E60
The naturally aspirated 520i, 523i, 525i and 530i take the GAN GA+, while the diesels take the GAN GT. The 530i itself was sold with 231 hp, 258 hp and 272 hp over the years, so match your hp figure to the row in the table. The E60 saloon arrived in July 2003, the E61 Touring in April 2004, and the facelift was unveiled on 24 March 2007. The 530d is the best-selling E60, with the 520d as the entry-level diesel in ADAC's view.
BMW 5 Series E60 remap: common questions
BMW 530d remap: which is the 218, 231 or 235 hp car, and what does the GAN GT give?
The 218 hp car is the earliest, built up to July 2005; the 231 hp car follows it, and the 235 hp car arrived with the 2007 facelift. The catalogue lists the 231 hp car with 500 Nm at 277 hp and 620 Nm with the GAN GT. Take these as stated gains for the engine type, not a dyno reading from your own E60.
Should I check the N47 timing chain on a 520d E60 built since September 2007?
The 163 hp 520d runs the M47, while the 177 hp car, from September 2007, has the N47. In Britain the 163 hp and 177 hp 520d are treated as two different cars, before and after the facelift, so be clear which one you have. On the N47 the chain is at the gearbox end and can stretch, and a rattle on a cold start gives it away; have it checked from about 100 thousand km.
Do the swirl flaps on the E60 530d and 525d matter before you fit a tuning box?
The intake manifold of the M57 in the 530d and 525d holds swirl flaps that can break up and drop into a cylinder. It is the metal flaps, fitted to some versions, that tend to break, so have them looked at first.
Does a GAN tuning box affect my car insurance?
Tell them. A tuning box raises the output, and in Britain that is a declarable modification like any other performance change. Policies differ, so a quick call to your insurer before fitting is the safe route; the figures they will ask for are the stock and GAN outputs listed here.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
