Each engine has its own tuning box: GAN GT / GTL or GAN GA / GA+. Prices are per box and include the current discount.
Not sure which engine you have?
The badge alone is not enough: in this generation, the same engine designation came in different power outputs, each with its own calibration. Check the power output in your registration document and find the matching row.

BMW 5 Series F10 remap: what changes
The GAN box plugs in between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals, while a flash remap rewrites the ECU itself. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

- +143 Nmfor diesels
Diesels gain mostly torque: +85 to +143 Nm, which helps with overtaking and towing.

What makes the BMW 5 Series F10 special
BMW F10 520d remap: the engines to check first
On the 184 hp BMW 520d F10, the 2.0-litre N47 diesel is the engine whose timing chain is the weak point to watch. The chain is at the gearbox end of the engine, and a rattle on a cold start is the warning sign. The F10 tuning box is matched to the exact engine, and the chain question applies to the N47 diesels rather than the petrol cars. In Britain the car is the F10 saloon, the facelifted cars are called LCI models, and the badges run from the 518d and 520d to the 535d and from the 520i to the 550i.
F10 is the saloon and F11 the Touring, and the July 2013 facelift brought in the 518d. In July 2014 the 520d switched from the 184 hp N47 to the B47, which makes 190 hp and 400 Nm. The 550i carries the twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8, the N63.
Which GAN box fits which F10
Fitted to the 184 hp, 380 Nm 520d, the GAN GT gives 218 hp and 481 Nm. That is the stated gain for this engine type, not a dyno reading from your own car. The petrol 520i, 523i and 530i take the GAN GA+, whereas the diesels, the 535i and the 550i take the GAN GT.
The 535d is the quickest of the numbered diesel badges, with only the M550d xDrive above it. The 528i built in 2010 and 2011 with the 3.0-litre N53 is covered here as well, under the 530i with 258 hp and 310 Nm. There is no row yet for the later 528i with the 2.0-litre N20 and 245 hp.
BMW 5 Series F10 remap: common questions
BMW 520d remap: should the N47 timing chain make you wait?
The chain issue applies to every N47 output, with engines built from March 2007 to January 2009 hit hardest. A chain replacement is labour-intensive, which is why a cold-start rattle near the bulkhead is taken seriously. A tuning box will not replace a worn part, so have the chain checked before you fit one. The GAN box works between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals, so the chain itself is left alone.
What does a tuning box leave alone on a 550i F10 with the N63 V8?
The N63 has a history of mechanical problems and several service campaigns. The box adjusts sensor signals and replaces no engine part. Both 550i power levels take the GAN GT.
F10: tuning box or flash remap, and what does stage 1 mean?
A stage 1 remap is a software job: the factory program in the engine control unit is replaced with a new one. The GAN box leaves the factory software alone and can be removed at any time, so your manufacturer's warranty is preserved.
Should I declare the GAN box to my insurer?
Yes, declare it. British insurers treat extra power as a modification, so the safe course is to tell them before you fit the box. How they treat it varies from one insurer to another, so ask before you fit the box; the standard and tuned figures you will be asked for are in the table on this page.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
