Chevrolet Silverado chip tuning: engines and generations
Chevrolet Silverado remap starts with the Duramax 6.6
On the HD 2500 and 3500 the engine decides everything, and that engine is the Duramax 6.6 V8. Chevrolet has no regular UK range for the Silverado; British cars are mostly left-hand-drive imports brought in by specialists. Import listings keep the American names, such as Silverado 1500, 2500HD and 3500HD, and the American model years rather than any British Mk number. There are three versions of it: the LBZ, built in 2006 and 2007, the LMM from 2007 to 2010 and the LML from 2011 to 2016.
Built for the American market and not offered in Europe, these pickups are listed with catalogue values rather than SAE ratings. The catalogue gives the LBZ 367 hp and 881 Nm, the LMM 370 hp and 895 Nm and the LML 402 hp and 1,037 Nm. All three are listed under the GAN GT.
Silverado 1500: V6 and V8 petrol engines
The Silverado 1500 has had four generations: the GMT800 (1999–2007), the GMT900 (2007–2013), the K2XX (2014–2018) and, from 2019, the T1XX. The engines are the 4.3 V6 and the 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 and 6.2 V8. In Oceania the 1500 has been sold through HSV since 2018–2020, converted to right-hand drive and fitted with the 6.2 V8. The catalogue lists the 4.3 at 195 and 285 hp and the 4.8 at 295 and 302 hp.
The 5.3 is listed at 315 and 355 hp, the 6.0 at 353 and 367 hp and the 6.2 at 403 and 420 hp. All of these petrol engines take the GAN GA+. The GMC Sierra is the Silverado's twin. Since one engine name covers several outputs, match both the engine and its power figure.

Silverado Duramax remap: what does the GAN GT add to the LML?
The catalogue takes the LML from 402 hp and 1,037 Nm to 470 hp and 1,213 Nm. These are catalogue gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your own car. For the GAN GT, GAN's stated figure is up to 30% more power.
What can a Silverado 1500 with the 5.3, 6.0 or 6.2 V8 realistically gain?
These engines take the GAN GA+, which GAN rates at up to 12% more power. GAN also quotes up to 15% lower fuel consumption with an economical driving style, but a truck towing a load will use more, so judge the box on pull rather than economy.
Silverado tuning box or flash remap: what stays untouched?
A flash remap rewrites the software in the ECU. UK tuning specialists draw the same line: a remap rewrites the calibration, while a removable box alters sensor signals and leaves the ECU software alone. The GAN box leaves the factory software, the checksums and the flash counter as they were, and writes nothing to the ECU. The ECU software is never changed and the box can come off at any time, so your manufacturer's warranty is preserved.
Will my insurer need to know about the tuning box?
Yes. In the UK a power increase counts as a modification, and insurers expect to be told about it before you drive with the box fitted. Each insurer handles it differently, so check with yours first and quote the before-and-after output from the table above.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
