Chiptuning Lada 4X4
Up to 12% more power for your Lada 4X4
Our catalog lists 2 generations and 6 engines for the Lada 4X4. For 6 naturally aspirated engines, the options are the GAN GA and GAN GA+: the GAN GA+ adds +10 to +15 hp (GAN GA+ from 189 EUR).
Which Lada 4X4 do you have?
Start with the model year and chassis code. Then pick your engine by the power output shown in your vehicle documents.

Not sure which engine you have?
The badge alone is not enough: in this generation, the same engine designation came in different power outputs, each with its own calibration. Check the power output in your registration document and find the matching row.

Lada 4X4 chip tuning: engines and generations
Lada 4x4 (Niva) remap: one engine, many names
A Niva is a short story: one main petrol engine, many names. Official British imports of the Niva ran from 1978 to 1997; later cars arrive through independent importers, often left-hand drive, so treat them as grey imports. The same car is the Lada Taiga in Germany and Austria, the Job in Italy, and in Britain the Cossack and the Hussar. Lada 4x4 and Niva Legend are the factory's current names for it.
Factory codes 2121, 21213 and 21214 point to the same car, which helps when you read an advert or a parts list. So a Lada Taiga takes the same box as a Lada 4x4. The engine is the 1.7i from the VAZ-21214 family: 1690 cc, eight valves and multi-point injection. Output is 83 hp at 5000 rpm and 129 Nm at 4000 rpm, sent to all four wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox and a transfer case.
What the GAN GA+ does for a Niva
For a Niva 1.7 the box is the GAN GA+, because the 1.7i is naturally aspirated, and the main version has 83 hp. The catalogue also holds 1.7i versions with 80 and 81 hp, so confirm the output in your registration papers before you choose. In Germany, Euro 5 versions of the 1.7i with 83 hp were sold until the late 2010s.
The Chevrolet Niva, sold as the Niva Travel from 2021, is a different model with other engines and was not sold officially in the EU. A Lada Niva remap brings a modest gain in absolute terms, as any naturally aspirated engine does. The Niva's modest power shows most near the national speed limit; the box is for drivability and load response, not speed.
Lada 4X4 remapping: questions
Lada Niva 1.7i: what does the GAN GA+ give?
On the 83 hp 1.7i the GAN GA+ gives 93 hp, and torque goes from 129 Nm to 144 Nm. The box is rated at up to 12% more power, the ceiling for a naturally aspirated engine. These are stated gains for the engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
Is a Cossack, Hussar or Taiga the same car as a Lada 4x4?
Yes: Niva, Taiga, Cossack, Hussar, Job, Lada 4x4 and Niva Legend all name one model. For every one of them, look up the 1.7i with 83 hp.
Does the box touch the transfer case or the four-wheel drive?
The gearbox programming stays as it is, and the box works on the engine signals only. The transfer case and the permanent four-wheel drive are outside what it adjusts.
Does a GAN tuning box affect my car insurance?
Yes. In the UK a power increase counts as a modification, and insurers expect to be told about it before you drive with the box fitted. Each insurer handles it differently, so check with yours first and quote the before-and-after output from the table above.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
