Not sure which engine you have?
The badge alone is not enough: in this generation, the same engine designation came in different power outputs, each with its own calibration. Check the power output in your registration document and find the matching row.

Land Rover Freelander II remap: what changes
The GAN box plugs in between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals, while a flash remap rewrites the ECU itself. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the Land Rover Freelander II special
Freelander 2 remap: the engine follows the build date
With the Freelander 2 the build date comes first, because Land Rover changed the diesels in July 2010. Until then the 2.2 TD4 made 160 hp and 400 Nm, and the GAN GT lifts it to 206 hp and 508 Nm. After the change the 2.2 TD4 makes 150 hp and 420 Nm, and the same box takes it to 193 hp and 525 Nm. The 2.2 SD4 that arrived with it has 190 hp and 420 Nm, and reaches 244 hp and 528 Nm with the tuning box.
The 150 hp and 190 hp cars are one 2.2 diesel with two boost calibrations. Known internally as the L359, the car carried TD4, TD4_e, eD4, SD4 and i6 badges in Britain, and the 2010 facelift brought the front-wheel-drive eD4 and the automatic-only SD4. Haldex fluid and filter changes are the usual preventative job on the four-wheel-drive cars, and worth keeping up before you add power. Treat these as stated figures for the engine types, not as a dyno reading of your own car.
The petrols and the November 2012 change
The Volvo-sourced 3.2 i6 is a naturally aspirated six-cylinder with 233 hp and 317 Nm, built until November 2012. The GAN GA+ takes it to 261 hp and 355 Nm, which is up to 12% more power. The 3.2 i6 is smooth and powerful but costly to run, so fuel use is a real consideration if you cover few miles.
From November 2012 the catalogue moves to the turbocharged 2.0 Si4 with 241 hp and 340 Nm, which the GAN GT takes to 306 hp, a gain of 65 hp. The petrol gains are stated figures too, not a dyno reading of your car.
Land Rover Freelander II remap: common questions
Freelander 2 2.2 TD4 remap: is my engine the 160 hp or the 150 hp version?
A car built before July 2010 has 160 hp and 400 Nm; a later one has 150 hp and 420 Nm. Some sources list the early engine at 152 hp, but the catalogue gives 160 hp.
Freelander 2 SD4 remap or tuning box: what is the difference?
Unlike a flash remap, the GAN box leaves the factory software alone: it adjusts the sensor signals, so the checksums and the flash counter stay as they are. The ECU software is never changed and the box can come off at any time, so your manufacturer's warranty is preserved.
Does the 2.2 diesel of the Freelander 2 have a timing belt or a chain?
It has a belt, not a chain, and a broken belt causes severe damage to the engine.
Does a GAN tuning box affect my car insurance?
Yes, declare it. British insurers treat extra power as a modification, so the safe course is to tell them before you fit the box. How they treat it varies from one insurer to another, so ask before you fit the box; the standard and tuned figures you will be asked for are in the table on this page.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
