GAN tuning box for Land Rover

Land Rover plug-in remap: no changes to the ECU software

The tuning box sits between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals – unlike a flash remap, which rewrites the ECU. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

FAQs

Land Rover remapping: questions

What does a Range Rover 3.0 TDV6 gain from a GAN tuning box?

The L405 3.0 TDV6 starts at 258 hp and 600 Nm and reaches 326 hp and 734 Nm with the GAN GT. On the Range Rover Sport, the 3.0 SDV6 at 306 hp gains 52 hp and 119 Nm, while the Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 at 245 hp gains 68 hp and 134 Nm. On an older diesel, drivability is what you will judge it on: how well the car holds a higher gear on a hill. These are the stated gains for the engine type rather than a dyno reading from your own car.

Which GAN box fits a Range Rover V8 Supercharged?

The 5.0 V8 Supercharged suits the GAN GT; the 4.2 V8 Supercharged of 2005 to 2009 is the one the catalogue pairs with the GAN GA+. The 4.2 at 396 hp gains 32 hp and 44 Nm with the GAN GA+, and the 5.0 at 510 hp gains 74 hp and 85 Nm with the GAN GT. Vogue is a trim level, not an engine, so choose by engine and output. HSE and Autobiography are trim names too, so go by the engine and its output rather than the trim.

How much do the Freelander 2 and Evoque four-cylinder diesels gain?

The Freelander 2 2.2 TD4 at 150 hp gains 43 hp and 105 Nm, and the 2.2 SD4 at 190 hp gains 54 hp and 108 Nm. The Evoque with the same 2.2 SD4 at 190 hp gains the same 54 hp and 108 Nm. In Britain the Evoque also came with a 2.0 TD4 diesel at 150 hp, and the catalogue has a 150 hp row for it.

Land Rover diesel: tuning box or remap?

A remap works differently: it rewrites the factory software inside the engine control unit (ECU). The GAN box sits between the engine sensors and the ECU, so the factory software, checksums and flash counter are never touched. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed and the box can come off at any time.

Should I declare the GAN box to my insurer?

Yes. In the UK a power increase counts as a modification, and insurers expect to be told about it before you drive with the box fitted. Each insurer handles it differently, so check with yours first and quote the before-and-after output from your engine's page.

Will a tuning box affect my Land Rover warranty?

No. The box does not change the ECU software and can be removed at any time, so your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved. On top of that, we give an engine warranty: 2 years with the GAN GT, 1 year with the GAN GTL.

Tuning box or remap: which should I choose?

A flash remap permanently rewrites the maps in the ECU and leaves a trace in the flash counter. The GAN tuning box adjusts the sensor signals instead: the ECU stays in factory condition, and you can return the car to stock in about a minute. A flash remap can be the better choice if the engine has upgraded hardware, or if the car is out of warranty and you accept the risks.

Land Rover chip tuning: what to know about the engines

Land Rover remap: two badges that mislead

Two badges trip people up when they choose a tuning box for a Land Rover. Supercharged, shown as Kompressor or SC in the catalogue, means a mechanical supercharger, not a turbocharger. Nor does the T in the 3.0T SC and 4.2T SC names stand for turbo.

The catalogue does not treat all supercharged engines alike: the 3.0 and 5.0 are matched with the GAN GT, whereas the 4.2 V8 Supercharged of 2005 to 2009 goes with the GAN GA+. The second source of confusion is the P and D numbering introduced between 2017 and 2019. The figure in a P400, D250 or P525 is a power class in hp rather than a displacement or an exact output, while the P400e is a plug-in hybrid with a 2.0 Si4 petrol engine.

Land Rover diesels: TDV6, SDV8 and TD4 explained

TDV6 and SDV6 are the same 3.0 V6 turbodiesel from the Ford and PSA Lion family, the SDV6 being the stronger version. On the Range Rover Sport L494 both run two turbochargers. TDV8 and SDV8 are V8 turbodiesels of 3.6 and 4.4 litres, again with two turbochargers. The Range Rover L322 started with the 3.0 Td6 at 177 hp until March 2006, then moved to the 3.6 TDV8 at 272 hp and, from July 2010, the 4.4 TDV8 at 313 hp.

The L405 is offered with the 3.0 TDV6 at 258 hp, the 3.0 SDV6 at 275 hp or the 4.4 SDV8 at 339 hp. TD4 and SD4 are the 2.2 four-cylinder diesels of the Freelander 2 and the Evoque, and the SD4 later became a 2.0 at 240 hp. Si4 is the 2.0 turbo petrol, rated at 300 hp in the Range Rover Sport L494 after the facelift. The Range Rover Sport SVR sits at the top of the range as a 5.0 V8 Supercharged making 550 hp, or 575 hp after the facelift.

Which GAN box suits your Land Rover

The catalogue decides: turbodiesels, the Si4 and the 3.0 and 5.0 Supercharged are matched with the GAN GT, rated at up to 30% more power, and the naturally aspirated petrol V8 and V6 engines with the GAN GA+, rated at up to 12%, as is the 4.2 Supercharged. The catalogue lists the Range Rover Sport, the Evoque and the Velar as models in their own right. For a Range Rover Sport remap, the diesels in the catalogue are the 2.7 and 3.0 TDV6, the 3.6 TDV8, the 3.0 SDV6 and the 4.4 SDV8. The Range Rover's 4.4 V8 and its 5.0 V8 at 375 hp are matched with the GAN GA+.

The Freelander 2's 3.2 straight-six, at 233 hp until 2012, takes the GAN GA+ too. The Freelander has been discontinued, so any Freelander you tune is a used car. Range Rover tuning is easiest to sort by engine, since the model has been through four generations.

Which Land Rover models are in the catalog

The catalog covers 9 models from Land Rover. The most engines are listed for the Range Rover Sport (24), Range Rover (22) and Discovery (15). The biggest gain among the models is on the Range Rover Sport: up to +94 hp.

Naturally aspirated Land Rover engines

For 20 naturally aspirated engines from Land Rover, there is the GAN GA+: up to 12% more power and up to 15% lower fuel consumption in ECO mode, which means better MPG. You can fit it yourself, in most cases in under 15 minutes.

Pick your model from the list above, then the generation by model year and chassis code, then the engine by the power output in your registration document. The engine page shows the exact gain and the price of the box.
