Each engine has its own tuning box: GAN GT / GTL or GAN GA / GA+. Prices are per box and include the current discount.
Not sure which engine you have?
The badge alone is not enough: in this generation, the same engine designation came in different power outputs, each with its own calibration. Check the power output in your registration document and find the matching row.

Volkswagen Golf VII remap: what changes
The GAN box plugs in between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals, while a flash remap rewrites the ECU itself. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the box can be removed at any time.

What makes the Volkswagen Golf VII special
VW Golf Mk7 remap: three engine families and the Mk7.5 facelift
Golf VII production in Europe ran from August 2012 to 2020, and from April 2019 the sole three-door body left was the GTI TCR. The Golf 7.5 facelift was shown in November 2016 and reached dealers in early 2017. In Britain most people simply say Golf Mk7, or Golf 7. A tuning box for the Golf 7 comes down to three engine families: the EA211 petrols from 1.0 to 1.4 TSI, the EA288 diesels, and the EA888 in the GTI and the R.
On the EA211 1.4 TSI, coolant leaks from the water pump and thermostat housing are a known check point, with coolant loss or a sweet smell as the signs. The EA111 of the Golf 6 never made it into the Golf VII. UK badges included Match, GT, GTD, GTI, GTI Performance and R, with estate versions alongside the hatchback.
From the 1.6 TDI up to the Golf R
For a Golf GTI Mk7 remap, the GTI was built with 220, 230 (Performance), 245 and 265 hp, and the Golf R with 300 hp and, after the facelift, 310 hp. The GAN GT covers the GTI at 220, 230 and 245 hp and the R at 300 and 310 hp. The 2.0 TDI at 150 hp and the GTD at 184 hp belong to the same EA288 family, and both take the GAN GT. All four 1.6 TDI outputs, 90, 105, 110 and 115 hp, are matched to the GAN GT.
The facelift 1.5 TSI evo with 130 hp has no row in the catalogue. The 1.5 TSI evo with 150 hp has no row of its own under the Golf VII; the same engine is listed as the 1.5 TSI of the VW T-Roc. The GTE plug-in hybrid has no row in the catalogue either.
Volkswagen Golf VII remap: common questions
Golf 7 2.0 TDI 150: how much does the GAN GT add?
The GAN GT lifts the 2.0 TDI from 150 hp and 320 Nm to 188 hp and 409 Nm. It is rated at up to 30% more power, and these are catalogue gains for the engine type, not a dyno result for your car.
Does a tuning box change anything on the DSG gearbox of a Golf 7?
Golf VII cars with the 1.0 to 1.5 TSI or the 1.6 TDI can have the 7-speed dry-clutch DSG (DQ200). Its limit is 250 Nm of torque, which can set a ceiling for tuning on these engines. The GAN box does not reprogram the gearbox. On the lower-powered 1.2 and 1.4 TSI and some 1.6 TDI cars the DQ200 is known for low-speed judder, hesitation and mechatronic faults, so have the gearbox looked at before you add torque.
Is the Golf 7 2.0 TDI affected by the diesel emissions scandal?
The Golf VII runs on the EA288, and on 22 October 2015 VW stated that the EA288 versions contained no prohibited software. The KBA recall of 15 October 2015 covered 2.4 million cars with the EA189, which means the Golf VI and older.
Will my insurer need to know about the tuning box?
Yes, declare it. British insurers treat extra power as a modification, so the safe course is to tell them before you fit the box. How they treat it varies from one insurer to another, so ask before you fit the box; the standard and tuned figures you will be asked for are in the table on this page.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
