Chiptuning VW Polo
Volkswagen Up to 30% more power for your Volkswagen Polo
Our catalog lists 4 generations and 77 engines for the Volkswagen Polo (2009 →). For 30 turbo engines, the options are the GAN GT and GAN GTL tuning boxes: the GAN GT adds +15 to +51 hp (GAN GT from 329 EUR, GAN GTL from 219 EUR). For 47 engines, the options are the GAN GA and GAN GA+: the GAN GA+ adds +5 to +16 hp (GAN GA+ from 189 EUR).
Which Volkswagen Polo do you have?
Start with the model year and chassis code. Then pick your engine by the power output shown in your vehicle documents.
Volkswagen Polo remap: what the GAN box does and doesn’t do
More power and torque without rewriting the ECU or replacing any parts. Unlike a flash remap, the tuning box leaves the ECU software alone and only adjusts the engine sensor signals.

Volkswagen Polo chip tuning: engines and generations
VW Polo remap: the line runs through March 2009
For a tuning box, March 2009 is the dividing line in the Polo story: the Polo V (6R) introduced the small turbo engines, starting with the 1.2 TSI at 105 hp, then the GTI in 2010 and the 90 hp 1.2 TSI from January 2011. British buyers talk about the Polo as Mk3 to Mk6, or by chassis code: 6R and 6C for the Polo V, and AW for the Polo VI. On the same body the Polo V gives two answers: the 85 hp 1.4 takes the GAN GA+, and the 90 hp 1.2 TSI the GAN GT. The catalogue matches every Polo III and Polo IV engine from before 2009 to the GAN GA+, the pump-injector TDI diesels included. The Polo III (6N and 6N2) was built from 1994 to 2001, with petrol engines from 1.0 to 1.8 litres and, from 1999, a 75 hp 1.4 TDI PD.
The Polo IV (9N and 9N3) followed from November 2001 to May 2009, with a facelift in March 2005. Its petrol range runs from the 1.2 at 54, 64 and 70 hp through the 1.4 at 75 to 101 hp to the 1.6 at 105 hp. The diesels are the 1.4 TDI PD at 69, 75 and 80 hp and the 1.9 TDI at 101 and 131 hp. The Polo IV GTI uses the 150 hp 1.8T. The 1.8T has no entry under its own name in the Polo catalogue; the same engine is listed as the 1.8 TSI FR of the SEAT Ibiza 6L.
From the Polo V to the Polo VI
Across the Polo V (2009–2017) the turbo petrols run from the 1.0 TSI at 95 and 110 hp through the 1.2 TSI at 90, 105 and 110 hp to the 1.4 TSI BlueGT at 140 and 150 hp. The GTI started as a 179 hp 1.4 TSI Twincharger, then became a 192 hp 1.8 TSI from 2014. Diesel Polo Vs take the GAN GT: the 1.2 TDI, the 1.6 TDI and, from 2014, the 1.4 TDI of the EA288 family.
The small 1.0 MPI and 1.2 MPI petrols, at 60 to 75 hp, remain with the GAN GA+. The Polo VI (AW) was shown in June 2017 with the 1.0 MPI at 65 and 75 hp and the 1.0 TSI at 95 hp; an 80 hp 1.0 MPI joined in July 2020. In the catalogue, the 200 hp Polo VI GTI and the 1.6 TDI at 80 and 95 hp are matched to the GAN GT.
Volkswagen Polo remapping: questions
What does the GAN GT add to the Polo V 1.2 TSI at 90 and 105 hp?
On the 90 hp engine the GAN GT lifts 90 hp and 160 Nm to 108 hp and 208 Nm; on the 105 hp engine it lifts 105 hp and 175 Nm to 125 hp and 228 Nm. Treat these as the stated gains for these engine types, not a dyno reading of your own car; the GAN GT range is rated at up to 30% more power.
Polo 1.4 TDI and 1.6 TDI: pump-injector or common rail?
The pump-injector (PD) diesels are the Polo IV 1.4 TDI and 1.9 TDI, which take the GAN GA+; the common rail ones are the Polo V 1.6 TDI and the later 1.4 TDI, which take the GAN GT. In a British Polo V the 1.6 TDI is the 75 or 90 hp version, and each has its own row in the catalogue.
How much does the GAN GA+ add to a Polo 1.0, 1.2 or 1.4 MPI?
All three petrols gain up to 12% more power from the GAN GA+.
Polo GTI remap: which GAN box fits each version?
Each GTI has its own GAN GT figures: the 179 hp Twincharger, the 192 hp 1.8 TSI from 2014 and, on the Polo VI, the 200 hp 2.0 TSI. British brochures list the first Twincharger GTI at 180 hp, and in the catalogue it is the 179 hp row.
Do I need to tell my insurer about a GAN tuning box?
Yes, declare it. British insurers treat extra power as a modification, so the safe course is to tell them before you fit the box. How they treat it varies from one insurer to another, so ask before you fit the box; the standard and tuned figures you will be asked for are in the table on this page.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 remap?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
